Have you ever planned or attended a surprise party? What neat ideas have you seen? Was the guest of honor a child or adult?

Unfortunately, with big extended families, busy schedules, we don't do surprise parties in my family -- too much going on. That is kind of sad -- cause I think that one would be fun (as long as it was for someone else, and not me).
My work had a "surprise" baby shower for me. And I say "surprise" because all that day my boss just kept telling me that somebody was coming in around 2:00 and I had to be there to help open accounts, do loan paperwork, etc...but he would tell me nothing about who was coming in, etc., so that I could get paperwork prepared ahead of time...so, when he went to lunch I looked at his calendar. For that time period, he wrote in "Kathy's Baby Shower" Up until that time, I had no inkling about one...I was just so aggravated that he would give me NO information...Not real smart on his part, and maybe I shouldn't have looked at the calendar...but it all worked out!

I did a surprise party for dh's 30th bday in March. I didn't do anything extravagant - just took him out to eat and when we got home a houseful of friends and family jumped out at him! He jumped about 10 feet! Since it was at our house and I couldn't let on that anything was going on, my mom and sis took care of most of the food and did a little decorating. It was fun and dh was very surprised - said he had NO clue! :D We also did a surprise party for my mom's 50th and for my bil's 30th years ago. One thing I remember doing for my mom's is making a collage of pictures for guests to look at of my mom over the years.
Are you thinking about throwing a surprise party for someone?? :)

I just pulled off dh's surprise BBq a couple weeks ago and it worked good. His brother took him fishing one Sunday afternoon. I had planned for guests to arrive during that time, but not all made it by then. That actually worked out better though cause as more people showed it become even more of a surprise.
This August I wanted to surprise my dd. She'll be 5. She wanted to do something at the park. I'm just not sure what to do.
Kathleen,
That was really neat of your co workers to throw the baby shower! I can remember trying to help throw a surprise shower and it was almost impossible to keep someone from spilling the beans! :)

Last summer my dh turned 40, so I decided to throw a surprise 'retro' 60's/70's party for him.
I had tye dyed t-shirts for everyone (about 40 people) and he even helped me tye dye them! I told him they were for Bible school - later he said, "I thought they were awful big shirts for children!"
Anyway, I had guys that he grew up with, played little league baseball with and roomed with at college, etc....it was a lot of fun and he was TOTALLY SHOCKED!!
The toughest part was keeping him out of the house long enough for me to get all the food done, and all the decorating done - ugh. Thank goodness for good friends and neighbors (one put out the food, and one decorated the deck, etc. while I ran around like a wild woman!!) :)
It turned out great and he was so surprised and grateful for the guests and work that was put into it.
This summer, his b'day will seem sooooo boorrring!!! :)
