American girl MUSTS

Ok i got the day off, and I have a reservation for July 16th, I am taking dd to American Girl for her 10th birthday. Just us! NO BOYS!

What are some Must do's?

Need input ladies who have been to Chicago and/or New York.

I've been to the Chicago store 3 times. I would go to the "musical" and to the cafe for lunch. My dd did a photo for an AG magazine cover that we got the framed print and it is wonderful of her and her doll together. They have a hospital if your doll needs any repairs and a doll hair salon, I've never used either of those. You have to book in advance for the musical and cafe FYI. The store itself is 3 floors and is usually packed to the gills! Take lots of $$ We stayed at the Omni the last time we went and it is just a block from the AG store and lots of other great stores, lol!

I really want to take dd#2 soon. She is getting the new doll Emily and a double stroller for her bday from my mom, I can't wait for her to open them!

I sucked it up and did the 'day' package. It included lunch, the magazine cover, the show and spending money. It was probably less to do things ala carte, but having the spending money built in was nice because there was no 'please mom can i have this? and this? and this?' she knew in advance she had a finite amount of money.

i also did the birthday party package, but i don't remember it being the same cost as the one on the website.

we didn't do the hospital.

I went ahead and booked the Day package too, you only turn 10 once, and this is a one time deal for Mom and Daugher...She is going to be too excited.

We will do a cake and presents from family over that weekend. planning on swimming at my Dad's with all the cousins.

i haven't ever been able to throw a birthday party and give her a present for less than the cost of the package so it ended up not being all that expensive.
dd still talks about the trip!
