Ok I'm throwing this out to all who have any insight.
Many of you past, present teachers etc. may understand this the best. You know that end of the year hyperness the children get where they are totally out of control? They are soooo disrespectful and rude and have no memory of everything they were taught all year.
How do you make it through the last few days? And not let it Carry over into the summer session. Even my best kids are totally misbehaving...I'm alittle bit calmer then the other teacher cause I've been through it before, But they basically had her close to tears and sooo angry I let her leave to go in the hall to wait for the parents of these last 3 kids. (OF course the parents are late).
I know that the best way is not to show the feelings to the kids but how do you keep the control at the same time?
Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

The only advice I can give right now is to make sure that they have absolutely NO FREE TIME!!!!! Make sure you have activities scheduled to the very last minute and extra just in case they get finished early. If you have to clean up, give them a rag and let them help. Let them put stuff in boxes or take stuff down off the walls, and no matter what make sure that you stick to the rules, don't become flexible just because they are almost finished.

Thanks for the advice it actually went pretty smooth...All the nappers napped....and the other's played well. Later even the older ones did well. they needed a few reminders but they pretty much stayed in line....BUt I am so exhausted. I'm gonna eat, lay down and watch TV.

Administrative and experienced 2 cents.....
Leigh is right- Keep them busy!
And imho, teachers have a tendency to bring this on when they talk about how many days are left. Kids feel disconnected. Preschoolers esp. have no concept of not being in school, and it scares them to not know what's next. Teachers are tired and looking forward to vacation/routine change, so they take it easy and let the kids amuse themselves. The combination is deadly--and it's compounded by taking down all the decorations and artwork, and taking toys out of the room. Try to keep things the same as much as you can. (And try to encourage your parents not to dwell on the END of school. Have them talk about summer plans and give the children something to look FORWARD to while they're not in school.)
I know the last day was today, and I hope you survived. By next year, you'll forget how hard this week was, and, if you're like my teachers, you'll do the same thing. LOL Of course, THEY all get summer off, too!

Most will have the summer off but there is about 25 kids at any given time that will be in the summer program.....just need to stick to Montessori way....but of course I won't be working most the summer so who know's what I'll come back too...LOL.

Vea...I thought you were working most of the summer...covering for someone who had a baby??
No real advice...all teachers deal with the "end of the school year" crazies!!! For your summer group, start over and review/re-draft the rules. Plan fun activities...that are rewards for positive behavior.
I'll bet you're glad that today is done!!

I thought I would have to but they scheduled soo many people that they didn't need me. I choose to take time and recoupe and concentrate on my PT. Plus visiting with family and friends. It's been forever since I went to LI.
