Ok I know didn't just wake up this way but it's like I just saw that I'm FAT! :wiggle:

I have no willpower to eat better and say the word diet and I will instantly think :snickers: :snickers:

I need to find a better way to eat and get some exercise :walkin:

I know there are some of you out there who are dropping pounds and working out regularly....what was your defining moment? How do you keep it up?

i was just saying to a friend that my ice cream addiction has gotten out of control! ;)
i was in the best shape i have ever been when i turned 40. i have decided that since i have a year, i am going to get back into that shape for my 50th! i want to lose between 10-15 lbs. (i have lost 30 in the last year...yep, i got big!!!) first, i have to stop the ice cream...really hard! i need to get back into exercising too.

I started an excercise program with a group of people at church that gave me accountability. If I didn't show up I knew they would call at 6am! I tell you, I just got to the point that I just cried at the way I treated myself, the clothes I had to wear, the way people looked at me and treated me. My energy level was so low I couldn't get anything done in a day without completely falling apart. And no, it wasn't my thyroid, although I love to use that excuse!

My best advice is to figure out how to work in at least 3 days of really tough exercise into your week and walk the days in between. Get some new healthy recipes into your food plan and pay attention to everything that goes into your mouth. I eat a lot of beans now, low fat/high protein and fiber! From a food addict... it's funny I have to remind myself to eat now. But just like an alcoholic, I have to keep myself in check everyday and take it one day at a time. Another really big thing I had to do was give up anything "sweet." Working through the sugar cravings was hard. Now after we eat and my inlaws ask if I have anything sweet I look at them and think, why? Aren't you full? lol I absolutely don't eat anything after dinner either. If I get hungry I drink water or go to bed.

I read a great Christian book called "Get out of that Pit" by Beth Moore. A fabulous book that shows how easily you can slip into a "pit" in my case a pit of food addiction. And how you can stand firm against it.

I hope you feel better soon!

Oooohhhh...that sounds like a good read. I'll have to look for it.

Congrats on your successes Ann, and Angie!!!

I feel like I'm in "limbo". I know what to do to lose weight and be more healthy...but just haven't had to motivation to do it. I love to walk with the puppy...and now that she is able to go further, we have been doing that more. I love to do the treadmill...but I hurt my achilles last spring (remember?) and ever since then, my exercise routine has never gotten back on track.

Eating? I guess we're not the healthiest eaters...and all of us could use an overhaul. Everyone in my family would benefit.

I've managed to drop almost 10 lbs this year...I want another 5-10 lbs off but I seem to be stuck here. My down fall is not to keep the junk ing the house if I have to go get it then It makes me really thing about how much I want it. Hopefully getting back to work will help with the weight.

This is what my cousin does (she was a personal trainer for years and is close to getting her degree in nutrition). She does eat chocolate and ice cream, but she goes OUT for it--she never brings it into her house. She swears that it is very easy and helpful for her to do this. However, she also rides her bike 20 miles every morning, so I'm sure that helps! ;)

I just simply won't buy what I know I'll eat a lot of... especially if it's junk food. I don't make/bake any cake/cookies that I know are going to stay here (I make/bake them with Sarah and send them home with her :biglaugh: ) I was never too big on ice cream until lately and have had to lay off from buying that too. No chips, dips... and when/if we do go out for fast food I've been ordering a salad (but still have to watch the dressings) or something else that's the most healthy. (if there is any) I've got to start exercising more... which I plan on (HAVE to) getting back into before winter, which is when I usually gain the most of my weight.

I was like Mary. I KNOW what to do, it was finding the motivation to put it in motion that was the hard part. It wasn't until I realized that ds's BMI was getting up there, that put me into action. By changing my focus to him, I was actually re-awakening myself. I don't want him to have life long food issues, so the healthier habits I can establish now for him (and dd), the better is life will be.

Here are helpful ideas:

Instead of watching TV, plan a 2 mile hike (with hills), go swimming, ride bikes etc.

Don't go out to eat to the places where it is easy to eat crap! We love Mexican, but can't control our chip/salsa consumption there. Also, Mexican is fattening. :bawling: Now it is our favorite salad/soup restaurant. Basically-don't set yourself up for failure.

When you cook at home, try to lay off the carbs. Make it simple like BBQ chicken with a veggie sautee. We even marinate zuchinni in fat free Italian dressing and put it on the grill to BBQ.

I'm sure you know what to do, you just have to be sick enough of the way you have been living to want something better for youself.

Finding the time to exercise has been the hardest part for me. I am not a morning person at all, but I get up at 5 AM 4 days a week and workout for 30 minutes. I got a bunch of different DVD and that really helps. I still don't want to do it, but I'm fat so I need to do it. I try to walk both Sat and Sun for about 3 miles. Sometimes I walk during the week as well after dinner, but it's hard.
