View Full Version : Interesting theory

I was just reading an article in a magazine that household clutter leads to overeating. I guess the more clutter you have, the more defeated and depressed you feel, therefore; causing you to eat. It also says the clutter acts as an energy zapper too. What do you think?

I know for myself I am more happy when I have a picked up/clean house. I know my laundry has been sitting in the basement for at least 2 weeks and I have gone by it dozens of times and it bugs me, but I haven't taken it upstairs yet. That added up with other procrastination projects causes me to feel defeated. I never linked it to eating before....

I completely believe that other than if your house is so dirty/disgusting that you lose your appetite.

I read somewhere (maybe on here) that when you on trying to clean up your house and start get discouraged, go to a room that you do have cleaned. It should give you a good feeling and re-energize you to continue.

My problem is I just need to get ONE room clean enough! LOL

I guess that could be true....my biggest problem is that I am a pack rat. If I could just make myself throw away stuff that we haven't used in a while, we would have a lot more room in our house....

Shoot I am not home enough to test this theory, although it totally makes sense to me!

I can definitely see where that would be true. :) I hate a mess/clutter and I'm sure it would overwhelm me to see it sitting there waiting for me to do something with it... thus the eating. :) It sounds like a good reason not to clutter. :biglaugh:

Weird! 8o My mom brought me that article yesterday! It also links poor sleep with a cluttered bedroom. I decided today that whether it's the cause of my weight problem or sleep problems or not it does affect me negatively and I need to deal with it! I've decided to go through the house, room-by-room and deal with all visible clutter. Once that's taken care of and I'm able to keep up with it I'll slowly start tackling the unseen. I started about 20 minutes ago and the kitchen is almost done. :) Feels good... and it looks so much cleaner and brighter!

Yeah Pam! We had the siding contractor over yesterday and I couldn't have the downstairs looking bad, so I started working on it at 7am!! LOL It looked awesome and I was so energized by having a clean house so early in the morning that I took a hike because I somehow felt free(er).

That is an awesome feeling - but why can't the people I live with it keep it that way??!!! Grrrrr!!! lol

Sheepishly editing: I suppose I might have a little to do with it; I run in, drop and go back out again that I can't keep up with getting everything back in it's place before I have to walk out the door and come back in with more stuff! LOL

oooh, that's me too! lol

Well, honestly, I have a ton of clutter on one kitchen counter and I don't over eat. I do drink when I cook so maybe that's a different theory! rofl I have been trying to find time to get to it but there is always the other stuff that needs attention first. Though today, I can hide my laundry hampers and ignore them since everyone still has clean clothes. Today is kitchen day. It's the catch all for everybody. And when I need a break from it, ds4's bedroom that still has stuff of ds3's in there. ugh, wish me luck! lol

Since we started back to school a few weeks ago, we have a neighbor coming in to let our puppy out mid-day. This has definately made me be more conscious of how my house looks. She is a great lady, and not going to be judgemental of my "mess". I just don't want to give that disorganized impression, though. I am much more apt to make sure that the kitchen is straightened before going to bed...and keep my island cleared. It has been a really good thing for me. And...(and this seems basic)...it's true that a when something is clean, it only takes a daily 5 minute "clean up" to maintain it. Who'd a thunk it???!! LOL
