I am so tired of packing. the dk's try to help but it almost would be easier to do it myself. At least dh has this week off to help get things together.
I have two more days at the day-care. I will miss all my little ones. It's hard to leave them behind.
We leave for the new house on Sunday. I have already informed dh that the 'puter in the last thing he can pack and the first to get set up again. You never know when I need a IB fix. :) dk finished gymnastics on sat. Dd had her awards banquet on Sun. She received three trophys. One participation, one most improved, and one best floor routines. She also recieved ribbons for uneven bars and vault. The beam has always been her downfall. She was pretty happy overall.
ds also had his last hockey game and got three goals. He was so excited.
Hang in there sweetie!!! You can do this. Yea to your dd and ds!

I can relate. I have two little helpers here, too. I wish dh would take them somewhere for a day or two so I could pack nonstop. Good luck with your move and be sure to get that computer hooked right back up! :)
Sounds like your dd did great with gymnastics! And, way to go to your little hockey player! :yippee:
I love moving, but hate the month before with the packing. Thankfully, dh is the packer of the house. You would be amazed at his abilities. LOL

Hang in there, it will be over soon. I know what you mean about it being easier to do yourself. But maybe they could pack things that you don't need to worry about, such as towels, blankets, out of season clothes.
They did great with the gymnastics and hockey, good for them. :)
At least the unpacking and re-arranging the new house is fun. Well, for me it is anyhow. lol Good luck with the move.

We are moving this weekend, ourselves, but only 35 miles away -- a little bit of furniture each night this week, already moved some boxes, and have LOTS packed up with more to go.
I have only moved one other time -- and that was eight years ago. My question is -- how far in advance do you pack? And do you have everything packed -- pots, pans, dishes, etc? I tried to do some of that earlier, but it seemed like when I needed something (like my crockpot the other day) it was already packed? Then, on average, how long does it take to get everything put away when you unpack? Do you re-wash all the dishes or what? I don't want to just put them away, but I don't want to wash them ALL either. I guess I could just run them through a quick cycle in the machine. (This turned into more questions than one! Sorry)

My dh thinks that unless the movers do all the packing, it isn't covered by insuarance.....wonder where he got that idea??? :newwink:

LOL LOL ....you are a riot! :)
We have both moved ourselves and had the packers move us. I pack up first the things I won't need- out of season clothing, blankets, hobby stuff, kitchen gadgets that aren't a necessity, stuff off the walls, kinck knacks, stuff like that. I also had the kids pack up all their toys except for stuff that would fit into one box. That way they still had some toys to play with but most of it was packed and out of the way. I planned very easy meals around the time we moved, things that didn't require much time or very many dishes. (I started about a month in advance with somethings and waited until a few days before the move for others.)
To Kathleen-
I personally wash EVERYTHING in my kitchen when I get it. I unload it right into the dishwasher before even putting in on a shelf. Especially after having packers pack up my stuff (I don't know where their hands have been! LOL!)
When we moved into our house about 2 1/2 months ago it took us about a weekend to unpack. We wanted all of the boxes out of our house as quickly as possible. I worked upstairs, dh worked downstairs. We had all the furniture where we wanted it and the computer, stereo and tv's all set up within hours of the stuff arriving at our house. My dks are 5 and 7 and they completely unpacked and put away most of the stuff in their own rooms. I helped open the boxes and we had all the furniture in there set up. All they had to do was put stuff away. It probably took me a good week to find a home for everything in my house because this place is smaller than our last house, but all the boxes were unpacked.
Good luck to all of you who are moving this summer. Another 3 years and we'll be moving again too!

I hope that everything works out okay for all of you movers. DH and I still haven't seen our stuff, so we don't exactly know the condition of it yet. The base called the other day to let us know that it was here. We don't have a house yet, so we have no place to put it.
KarlaB: I ate on paper plates for about 1 month before we moved.
Kathleen: I also put everything in the dishwasher when I unpack it. You never know, so it is better to be safe than sorry.
Ryleigh: Hang in there, it will all be over soon. I know that it is so hard to leave all of your dc kids. I cried when I left mine, and I still think about them all of the time. Congrats to your kids. I know that you are proud of them both.

Wow! You'll have to let us know when you get your stuff. Do you find yourself needing or missing anything that you don't have yet? Is there just a certain amount of stuff that you packed that you got to have in your possession when you actually moved or how does that work? Hope everything made it here okay!! :)
When we just moved we didn't see our stuff for nearly 4 months! It took it a while to get here but then we were waiting for a house!
Depending on where you are moving from and to you might get 2 shipments (like overseas). One is a smaller shipment that has all the things you might need right away (stuff to cook with, things like that) the other will have all the rest of your stuff. The smaller one is usually moved by air so it gets to your new base quicker while the other might go by boat or road depending on where it it going. If you have a place to live they will deliver the shipments as soon as they arrive. Usually most military people I know go "home" or some where else on leave before they go to their new base just to give their stuff a little longer to get there.
Personally I missed all of my things by the time that I got them! I just wanted to live in my own house and have my own stuff! The only thing that didn't make it here when we moved was a cordless phone. I'm not exactually sure how the packers took it because I was in the room with them watching the whole time. It was a good phone too, so I was a little peeved!

Wow! I don't know that I could be without my stuff for that long! LOTS of admiration for those of you who go thru this AND have dh's who are gone for months at a time!!!

We moved from overseas, but we elected not to do two shipments. We only had one and we mailed some stuff, but yeah there are things that we find we need every now and then. Our stuff is in the states in storage. It only took it 32 days to get here which was pretty fast. Now they will store it for 180 days or until we get a house for them to deliver it to. That is the hardest part, knowing that it is in the states, but we can't get to it. We have been without our things for about 2 months now, and I don't know how close we are to getting a place to live, so I don't know how much longer it will be.
