View Full Version : To those with "itchy feet" about moving
Hey Jak and Melody. I found to your replies about moving a lot alot like mine. I grew up in the same house for most of my life and even went to college in the same city. That is probably why I wanted to get out so bad and never go back. LOL
Dh retires in February and are deciding exactly where to settle down :nervous: For my kids sake, we are not moving again and trying to plant roots for them. Orginally, I wanted to move to NH near the mountains and the ocean, but there are no big cities there and think we would become bored silly once the novelty wore off.
My question for you would be-what are the criteria for finding a place you wouldn't want to leave again-finally get rid of the itchy feet? LOL

I keep telling dh it would take me being in a year round warm climate. I'm a huge wuss when it comes to the cold. If I could move to Hawaii or California I would never leave. But I think it would have to look very beautiful too, not just hot. I think something like Hawaii would do it for me. But I can't say that I would stay in the same house for the rest of my life, I would go stir crazy. Dh wants to build our dream house in about 5-10 years and then stay there. I don't think so!!! LOL Maybe be there for 10 tops. But he wants to stay here until then, we've been here for going on 3 yrs already, what more does he want?? LOL I would love to live in the same town as one of my brothers and my parents but would rather they move with us to somewhere warm. :)
Did I mention shopping and the beach? I could not live somewhere where I couldn't go shopping whenever I pleased and I love the beach so they would have to be thrown in there too. But that's it, I don't think about the important stuff to make me go. I guess because I know dh will never leave Ontario. :bawling:
Some place where I can not see my neighbors house.
Out in the country but close (about 30-45 minutes) to a big city, where there are not a lot of people or a lot of traffic.
Weather with 4 seasons (it can get hot but NOT HUMID- it can snow but not all winter)
The crime rate has to be pretty low because I want to feel safe.
Good schools.
At least a days drive away from home and family. I want to be close, but not TOO close.
I think once I find some place I really like though I won't get itchy feet. I really would like to find a home and stay there forever, especially for my kids sake. I'll probably just have to rearrange the furniture every now and then so at least my house will look different. I want to OWN my own home and do what ever I want to it! As much as I love it here in AK it is not some place that I think I'd want to live forever.
Wow insightful replies! I think the beach would get old to me,especially if you live in a touristy town. Nothing worse than a ghost town in the off-season. LOL
Dh and I always thought we wanted to live in the country too, but decided it wouldn't be fair to the kids not having nearby friends and things to do (MHO only). I love New England, especially the top three northern states, but not much in terms of culture. I think thats why we are drawn to the suburbs outside of Buffalo, NY. They got the professional teams my dh worships, good school districts, close access to Canada and close but not too close to family. :) I would have never considered that area before, but it makes a lot of sense. I just have to get used to a ton of snow again. LOL
