Probably first... the stuffing, then the mashed potatoes/gravy... then the turkey. :licklips: Oh yeah... of course the pies are always good. :licklips: I guess that's pretty much everything. LOL

If I had to pick one thing it would be the dressing. Everything else just falls into line behind that, lol!

stuffing is in the bird and dressing is out of it!
you can't have stuffing unless you STUFF it in something! ;)

My favorite is the turkey!

growing up, ours was always a cornbread based. it was my grandmother's recipe and never got written down. she taught it to my mom who never wrote it down. :( i have been experimenting and think i got pretty close last christmas. it's half cornbread, half bread and very soft and moist.

my mil makes a pretty good one, but it's completely different tasting. hers is all bread. it's got pecans in it and is baked in the oven. it's got a very crusty top and is moist but firm.

I always thought they were two of the same... just different names. Your
definition of them totally makes sense. LOL

So now I've got to tell people I'm making DRESSING and not stuffing cause I'm not stuffing it in my bird. LOL

How do you do your sweet potatoes please? And any thoughts on why one time when I went to mash them they were stringy?

My mom's mashed potatoes. Nobody makes them like she does. They are to die for! I also love the dressing. Mil makes her's with bread, and my mom makes her's with cornbread. I love them both!

Loooove the sweet potato casserole. It is sinfully delicious! And my favorite Thanksgiving desserts are my mil's homemade pumpkin pie and my mom's homemade lemon icebox pie.

I've been sooo good with my diet and exercise, but I'm letting loose this Thanksgiving. LOL I only get this type of food twice a year (Tgiving/Xmas). There is no way I will be able to resist. I can't wait til tomorrow!

I just peel them, cut in large chunks and boil them until tender. Dh mashes them and usually runs the mixer through them to be nice and creamy.
(or did you want the recipe?)

Dunno why your would be stringy? I've had mine get a little stringy but only when they are baked, not boiled.
