View Full Version : Letting go of the dream
As a lot of you know dh and I had our heart set on my Grandmother's house outside of Buffalo, NY. Its too expensive to upkeep, so my Uncle wanted to put it on the market ASAP. We were still gung ho about buying it until a realtor came in and appraised it for $100,000 more than what dh planned on. YIKES!! And this is AS IS. It needs about 50-75K in renovations in the house itself and goodness knows what the 125 year old barn needs! We still plan on moving to the area (I think), but for the last year we thought we could really get this place. Everyone is shocked at the value. Oh well, Im sure we will find something in our price range and it won't need any work.
I'm so sorry that it didn't work out for you. I hope you find something that makes you and your family happy.
Thanks Cathy, Im sure we will. Im a firm believer in things working out for the best.
There's also the effort that people put in, that makes things work out. ..and making the best out of what you have. Good luck. It'll be nice to have someone else from upstate NY to whine about snow with.
Well, look at it this way..you now have 50 states to consider!!! I am sorry this didn't work out but it may be a blessing in disguise.
You could come down HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :newwink:

I'm sorry that things didn't work out the way you had hoped they would. It's always so hard to let go of something you've had your heart set on. Maybe some day in the future when/if it goes on the market again, you'll be in a better position to purchase it. (with all of the renovations already done) LOL Things have a way of working themselves out, so even though it may not happen today, it could still happen... so don't totally give up on your dream! LOL In the meantime, I'm sure that you'll find something that is both affordable and will still meet all your needs. Good luck in your search! :)

I'd like to be able to do that but... I don't think so! LOL :biglaugh: Our neighbor was extremely interested in buying my FIL's house until the appraiser came up with the $309,000 price tag on it. :) We weren't expecting it to be that much either but... if we can get that much for it were certainly not going to turn it down. LOL I felt kind of bad having to tell the neighbor but... what could we do? They were very understanding but it's hard when you're dealing with people you know. Good luck to you though... I'm sure you'll find something you like. :)

I'm sorry you won't be able to get the place you've had your hopes up for. I'm sure it's hard to let the idea and dream go. I hope you find something you really like, wherever you decide to go. :)

What a disappointment for you. :( I know I would be crushed, but it must be one of those times where what's meant to be happens. (Not that that makes it any easier!!) Hopefully all will work out for the best when you do go on your house hunt. Sorry you're going thru this. :(
On an up note, a few of us Minnesotans could be on the search for something here for you! :D

I am so sorry that it didn't work out. I sort of know how you feel. Everytime dh and I find a place here, something comes up to ruin it. I am really ready for a place of my own. I think I am going to go nuts, if I have to stay with someone much longer. LOL!!!
we almost didn't get the place we are in now for just those same reasons...Money...its kinda a bad word for me......but a year after we decided to back out of our deal, things changed....dh's uncle had a change of heart on the price, and we found some willing lenders....to help us get the down.....I hope you find something that works for you....and you never do know what the future holds....it will be nice to have you here in Central NY.....snow snow snow......again...I am truely sorry that it looks so bleak now...but I believe what you said, things happen for a reason...and never give up hope....

So sorry to hear that it won't work out for you!! WOW! I can't believe the price of housing there. I'm imagining awful huge extravagent houses!
My BIL just put his house on the market here for $50,000. It's a 4 bedroom, 2 story older home in great condition. In Kearney or Grand Island ( which have populations around 35,000) a similar house would run at least double that.
Maybe you should head over this way. LOL :)
