Have you ever won?
Our Lottery here is $270,000,000 so I went in on the pool at work.
I don't but don't usually play, but couldn't resist.
I've told ya'll my winning the California lottery story, haven't I?

Every once in a while, I buy a scratch off, or a quick-pick. I don't think I plan to win--but "all it takes is a dollar and a dream". LOL Dd buys scratch tickets and she wins enough to pay for the next ticket. Not a substitute for gainful employment though. Not that I'd MIND her winning.....
NO! do tell please!
really? ok! LOL
this was years ago, before we had the Tx lottery. I know I was married but I am not sure ds was even born yet...so long time ago.
we were in a pool with her and 12 people here. (me, dh, my brother, mom, dad, and about 6 other people)
It was Thanksgiving Eve. We get a call from our friend in CA who bought our tickets. She says WE WON!!!! it worked out to be about $150,000/person!!! we were just blown away. we start calling our friends in the pool and they are stunned. there is a hotline you can call to verfiy the winning numbers and the pot amount...we called that probably 100 times. none of us could sleep that night. AND it didn't really bring out the best in us. LOL my brother thougth it was unfair that the couples in the group got two shares and he only got one (each person who bought a ticket got a share), my dad was planning to use my mom's share to pay off bills and his to travel...she thought she should spend her share the way she wanted. one of the other families in the group were catholic and their priest was spending Thanksgiving with them so they decided they better not tell the priest about winning cause the church would want a huge donation! LOL
our family comes over for Thanksgiving dinner and we are all so very thankful for our bounty.
as we are sitting down to dinner, our friend calls and says 'yes, we did win but so did 7, 542 other people!'
our share went from $150,000/person to $2.64!!!
we decided that was God's punishment for our bad behavior! LOL

 Well that's a fine how do ya do, Ann!
I don't play (we don't have it here, but I wouldn't play if we did). And I don't gamble. I hate it when people come to visit and want to go to the casino--hate the noise, lights, and smoke. It's actually depressing--seems that many of those who play the lottery (I used to work on a lottery machine in PA) and gamble daily are old people who can't afford it but want to win something for their kids. :grimace:

I find them depressing too. Dh and I went for dinner last fall and went to play the slots later (we always set a $20 limit and wont' go over). We didn't get through it, had to go. No one smiles in those places, you see the desperation and depression on people's faces and know that they can't afford to be there.

AAaaaahhhhhhhahaa! That is hilarious, Ann!
Dh plays with a friend at work. Not sure it's every week, though. This week he won $10 and $7! But, you can't win if you don't play!
you can't win if you don't play!
That's what I say!
But, you can't
win if you don't play!
Darn!

What really gets to me is when someone who's already extremely well off wins it, while there are sooo many other's out there who really need it and could use it a lot more. Then their are those who would just party it away. I'd probably party a little... but not blow it all on one big party.
Sooo... what would you do with it if you won the lottery? :)

A man my Dad used to work with years ago played the same numbers every week. They did shift work and he didn't have time to get his tickets so he phoned his wife to get them. She didn't know the numbers and couldn't find his paper and did not want to bother with the hassle of calling him at work (hundreds of feet down in the salt mine). So she got him quick picks. His numbers came up! Can you imagine how ticked off you would be at yourself for not calling your dh?
Diane, if I won a big amount and not just 10 bucks, I would go to the bank and get rid of the mortgage. The rest would depend on how much I won. Thousands would be banked for the kids college/university education. Millions would be buying a house for my parents and getting rid of siblings (mine and dh's) mortgages plus making sure they all had what they needed. Plus there is charity work and travel I would love to do. :)
a man goes into a church and prays 'dear lord, please let me win the lottery. i am about to lose my business, the lottery is the only way to save it'.
next week he comes in.. 'god, please..i really need to win the lottery. i lost my business and now i may lose my home'
another week goes by and he is once again back in church
'LORD, i am begging you...please let me win the lottery! i lost my business, i lost my house and now my wife is going to leave me.'
again, another week goes by and once again the man is in church, 'god, i have lost everything..you told us 'ask and you shall receive'; i asked god, but you did nothing...why god...why??'
suddenly he hears a loud, booming voice 'Joe..you've got to buy a ticket!'
