In the last year we have lost Walter Mathau, Carol O'connor, and now Jack Lemon.
I must confess that I first started watching Lemon in later films like Grumpy Old Men, but I have grown to appreciate him more throughout the years. I have seen his dramatic side in Glen Gary, Glen Ross, and I really enjoyed The Apartment. In my quest to go throught the AFI top 100 movies I'm sure I will see many more of his films. At the top of the list of movies I want to see are Some Like it Hot and Days of Wine and Roses.
He was said to be the first guy in Hollywood to showcase his insecurities. In a world of suave leading men, Lemon was just a neurotic uptight guy trying to make things work... and many of us related to him.
He will be missed.

This is the first I've heard about him dying. :( How sad! (I just told dh and he said he already knew. I feel like I've been living under a rock lately! LOL!) Anyway, this is sad news - he will definitely be missed!
So very sad!
I loved Some Like it Hot, didn't care for the Day's of Wine and Roses, but as far as acting goes, he and Lee Remmick were awesome.

I had heard about this too. It is very sad. I think that it is weird that him and Walter Mathau died so close together and they played in several really good movies together. Does this seem ironic to anyone else?

I thought the same thing and had even mentioned it to my dh... LOL When they were making the film "Grimpier Old Men" they were shooting the store scene from my best friends dh's store that he manages here in Minnesota. They needed "extra's" so they asked my dd if she wanted to be in the movie. We got to meet Jack Lemmon, Walter Mathau, Bergis Merideth and Sophia Loren, and that old lady who played Sophia's mom... I can't remember her name. Jack Lemmon, Walter Mathau and Bergis Merideth were all very nice... (Sophia was quite stuck up and was constantly complaining that it was too cold outside for her) Unfortunately, Kristi's little part got cut from the scene... but it was a great experience for her. :) It's hard to believe that all three of these guy's are gone... They will all definitely be missed.

I loved th Grumpy Old Men movies. The characters he and Walter played reminded me so much of my grandfather and his brother.
