I just noticed we don't get a lot of newbie posters anymore.

We get new people registered all the time, just not posting...

I've noticed that too. I think those who are here have been here for quite a few years... and I hope none of you are planning on going anywhere any time too soon. :)

I think we scare people! ;)

Seriously, I have checked out a board that had people who obviously "know" each other well and have for years and it can be hard to jump in. I was on a home schooling email list like that. People asking about each other's kids and if one was going to the Peace Corps and what happened with the testing they had, etc. I got off it because I didn't have the time or desire to get involved, KWIM?

I just recieved an email from Donna saying that newbies can't seem to post. I don't know if she signed up with a new username and that's why she can't post....

Does anyone know anything about this? I emaiked her back to see if she's using a new username. I'll keep you all informed.

Anyone know why ...she hasn't been able to get in touch with David either?

Thats what I see...Think she might have been locked out....maybe using wrong password (just speculation on my part). Then maybe tried to get a new member name.

Anyway she just wanted me to post about the newbies not being able to get privledges.

Is this you, Donna?? Welcome back! Fill us in on what's been going on with you!!

LOL, yup, it's me.

Uhhhmm...I can't recall how long I've been gone, so let me see if I can think of anything big.

I did run the Nike Half Marathon in honor of my FIL who is still battling Lymphoma. Oh my gosh, it was the best time!! I ran it (walked, jogged, limped) at the lightening speed of 3 hours and 20 minutes. It was the greatest time!

I start back working pediatrics again tomorrow. Did several months in adult acute care/rehab, but a hospital setting requires working weekends and holidays, so I moved on to geriatrics when my contract finished so I could have more flexibility with scheduling.

DS1 is at college, DS2 has his drivers license, DS3....is 10 years old LOL. See the step children on ocasion. I am letting DH handle that situation almost exclusively now. It's up and down, but might be getting better.

that's about it....thanks for asking!

Mickey - DS3 says he wants to design cars. We're not sure what degree he needs to persue that, though. Probably some kind of engineering degree.

It's raining again and although I know we need the rain I wish it would rain between the hours of 10pm to 4 am I need to get my washing dry.
Up north and inland have way over the usual rain and southern states are having raging bush fires, can't they fix each other? LOL
I'm hoping it won't rain monday 26th as we will be having a BBQ lunch with lamingtons and I will make some ANZAC biscuits as well .... the inlaws will be here.

Tasmania the closest state to Antartica has been known to have snow at christmas eeeek!

Well the schools in my state are back in school for 2009!
ds2 is excited about seeing his friends again but says, ick school!
I have to pack him a couple of water bottles as it's still so hot, they only have 200 lockers for 1300 students so it's like winning the lottery in that dept, so far neither of the boys have been lucky enough to score one!

How are you warming up now, looking forward to spring?

grandma3
02-02-2009, 06:46 AM
and to think our kids are still going and haven't got out for the summer yet. Wow only 200 lockers for 1300 students. That must be a small school with an overload of students. Do they get out of school early if it gets too hot in their classrooms like they do here? And yes can't wait for spring...now if the groundhog will co-operate today. Ha

Kathy
02-02-2009, 03:15 PM
No lockers over here don't seem to figure much in the schools I don't know of any school that has 1 for each student ... maybe the private ones do but not the public ones. This is our local high school http://vpshs.eq.edu.au/wcmss/
I never had a locker neither did dh or even going back to my mums time.
They are allowed to take drink bottles into class on hot days and never to my knowledge has anyone got out early for the heat ... me either! We're tough here or just dumb LOL

ds2 turns 14 on friday oh boy is this mum getting old!

seleach
02-03-2009, 12:09 PM
Our kids sometimes have to share lockers, but everybody has a locker.

andyandlexismom
02-03-2009, 12:59 PM
We didn't have lockers until high school but then our school wasn't overcrowded like they are around here, now. I'm not sure how they handle that now.

grandma3
02-12-2009, 10:12 AM
must be tough Kathy, must be tough. Ha as for getting old wait til your oldest is 32 close to 33 then you can be old. LOL. Time does fly and waits for no one. Hope you are still safe from the fires over there. A picture making the news here showed a fireman giving a kola bear a drink of water from his bottle. The little bear had burned feet i believe it stated. The wildlife people came and rescued it. It was trusting the fireman. Bless its heart. Bless everyone over there and i hope all get thru this with no more loss of life.

Happy
02-15-2009, 07:48 PM
Yes, Kathy I hoe you are well and there isn't any more loss of lives. .....Gramma3, age is only a number and mine is unlisted! LOL

Kathy
02-15-2009, 10:00 PM
That Koala was named Sam, was a girl and she must have been very thirsty to drink cause as a rule they don't drink water, they get 99% their moisture/liquid from the gum leaves they've shown a few animals here, with kangas, possums even dogs etc would you believe another fire has been lit in a similar area, some one is so not right in the head!

Happy I like that age is only a number and I'm unlisted ..... to be honest age doesn't worry me as there is nothing you can do about it but enjoy the privileges those digits give you. Enjoy life LOL

The humidity has gone down a bit here today but still hot and 32*C yippee!

grandma3
02-26-2009, 07:04 PM
Happy mine is unlisted too but its BR-549. or 8375309. Sounds familiar, ha.
Kathy, i hadn't thought about it the digits way. Ha that was a good answer.
I hope that all has gone well over in your part of the world now Kathy. I hope all the fires are out and they caught whoever was responsible for them.

Kathy
02-26-2009, 07:13 PM
The fires are more under control over here but they are still evacuating areas I think the let them burn so that it clears and they can rebuild or clear those large tracts of land ... don't know but there has been no more loss of life that I'm aware of.

I've been getting a new kitchen in these last 2 days, we've been saving for the last 3 years, thank heavens we didn't do the job ourselves, it's turned out to be more than we could've thought to handle can't wait till it's all finished and I can get my kettle out of the bathroom LOL

grandma3
03-02-2009, 06:45 PM
that sounds like a nice home improvement. Are you getting new appliances and counters or cabinets? Are we all invited for supper? I know we all will be there...

Kathy
03-02-2009, 08:37 PM
The appliances are less than 5years old excluding the frig and freezer but I did get a new deeper SS sink, love it I can fit all my frypan in at once instead of turning ends.
Just need the plasterer now and then we can paint the rest of the house.
Now I can store up my cupboards and drawers again wooohoo!

Happy
03-03-2009, 02:13 PM
Katy, Your kitchen is going to be beautiful! Now what day and time should Grandma3 and I be over for breakfast, lunch and supper????????

Kathy
03-03-2009, 02:37 PM
Breakfast for dinner should cover both ends of the day meals, don't forget we are 15hrs ahead of you, I'd wait until the humidity goes away it's back and horrible ... also gives me a bit more time to tidy up LOL
... apart from that any time. :giveflowers:

grandma3
03-04-2009, 04:06 PM
we on our way as soon as happy gets here. Lets see we might be a day or two late tho. LOL Sounds like it is gonna be a nice kitchen Kathy with that deep sink

Happy
03-07-2009, 10:51 PM
Kathy, how's the kitchen? I bet you're really loving it! Grandma 3 and I will be at your house soon, so get the food ready we're gong to stay a while......lol

grandma3
03-08-2009, 09:52 AM
i bet shes done wore out that new sink. LOL, Kathy i know you are enjoying it.

Kathy
03-10-2009, 01:19 AM
I can fit my whole electric frypan in the sink handles and all woooo hooo!
It's 8 inches deep, 16 inch square with ovalled out sides that make left to right across 18 inches and it has one of those little rinsing sinks beside it, much better than my old one.
The kitchen is in and it took me ages to restock the cupboards (only 2 in 2 corners and the pantry) and find places for the right things. I now have drawers instead of cupboards for my plates, glasses, bowls. I have a rubbish bin/recycling bin installed in a cupboard of it's own with a shelf for liners and dustpan and brush and other odds and ends.
I also now have cupboards above the fridge freezer pair and a built in computer cabinet beside that, it has doors and all the computer stuff can be closed away.
I'm waiting for my spashback that is being done. The plasterer is coming to fix the walls so that the splashback can go on and painting fun can ensue!
I will attach photos when it's all done.
I can't figure where stuff is and just keep opening drawers etc till I find that spatula! LOL
Then there is the rest of the house to start on, the bathroom, carpet cleaning, painting the eaves, checking the roof, you know all that other fun stuff LOL:giveflowers:

grandma3
03-10-2009, 12:46 PM
are you remodeling so you can move? This sounds like a neat kitchen now Kathy. Do we need to give you a pounding so you will have something to fill up all these drawers.? LOL I bet it is nice and something you will get good use of.

Kathy
03-10-2009, 04:26 PM
No the kitchen was done so that we have it 'right' for many years to come, they will have to drag us out of here at retirement time for the nursing home LOL We live in a cul de sac of 10 houses with a 25 minute easy walk to the shops, they bay is esay 5-10 mins easy walk the other way, we don't plan on moving .............. maybe if we win lotto but you hve to buy tickets for that and we don't so that would be a draw back in that regard LOL

A 'pounding'? as in a whack on the back?

Happy
03-10-2009, 06:01 PM
Kathy, your kitchen sounds glorious! Enjoy!!! Now you'll bake up a storm.....I like any kind of cookies and chocolate cake!! LOL

grandma3
03-10-2009, 07:13 PM
Oh i know how's rich now don't you happy? LOL. Kathy you sound like you live in a very pretty spot and i don't blame you then for not moving or even thinking about moving. Oh as for a pounding, we would have like a shower and bring you pounds of food or ??. You know we gotta fill up all that new space for you and you know you want all new pans, dishes, dish towels, etc., right?? LOL so when me and happy comes for supper, we will give you a pounding. We will invite everyone from anywhere that you might know. Ha

Kathy
03-11-2009, 02:22 AM
I've heard of a pound cake but not sure Iv'e actually tried one.
It would have been good to have food stuffs left at my doorstep I didn't do groc shop for a couple of weeks (besides veg) so that I wouldn't have to move it all ... mother hubbards cupboard was certainly bare.
We've had this house from new and not done much to it, it's just time to start doing those extra bits to make it last and look good, we can do this now as we made our last payment 3yrs ago and that is when we started saving for the kitchen, the old house payment money.
The kids are older now and we can get those finger marks off the walls with new paint, the eaves paint is going powdery (probably due to the cheap paint in the first place in and outdoors) .... you know the usual.

Well all my sick men in the house, in various states of sickness, are on the mend, geee men make sorry patients give me squalling babies any day LOL

... I guess I better go and sort something out for dinner. I visited my inlaws for arvo tea and they had choc, choc coated biscuits, yum!

grandma3
03-15-2009, 03:05 PM
hey Kathy, i know what you mean by men can't handle being sick..LOL..They are worse than whinny babies sometimes. Ha.

Sounds like your new remodeling is coming right along. Great that its finally getting to what you want. One of my uncles remodeled his house once and said he could rebuild a new house about as cheap.

As for a pound cake, they are good. As for a food pounding its done like a house hold shower. Not many people here do them anymore unless its maybe like someone thats been real sick or had their house burn or something like that. Are you changing the color of your kitchen curtains and walls and kitchen stuff like nick nacks

grandma3
03-15-2009, 03:10 PM
But did you get your kettle out of the bathroom yet???LOL

Kathy
03-15-2009, 04:24 PM
Oh yeah the kettle's out of the bathroom LOL
The kitchen is the only room we wanted changed structurally the rest is just paint and a bit of hard work, no point asking the kids then LOL

The other day ds1 was reversing out of the driveway (need the concrete driveway for under car work) reversed out and hit my BRAND car, my new car only 2 years old, he didn't see it, it was the only car in the street darn it!
$1800 worth of damage, sheesh! so guess who now has a debt to pay, ds1, no snow no nothing for an excuse except he didn't see it

grandma3
03-16-2009, 02:37 PM
oh me. Did you stripe his legs with a hickory switch, LOL? I know he had to have felt bad tho. My son did worse, he total loss my car back in sept. It wasn't new but he was stupid. I eventually swallowed it up and said at least he didn't get hurt. They make cars and parts but they don't make the same kid. I know how you felt. Believe me i do but i got thru it and you and your ds will to.

Kathy
03-16-2009, 05:05 PM
Darn where is that hickory tree!

Hubby said to ds1 didn't you see the big black car? He said no, he knew the car was there, didn't see it but kept reversing, D'OH, I think ds1 would rather us rant and rave than say nothing LOL
Yep just another expensive lesson for poor ol' Michael, he seems to be having a few of those lately! We all do dumb things hopefully like us he will grow out of them.

Had a big storm go through last night with some very close lightning and some of that lightning really lit up the sky, all calm now with a few branches down but the rain last night now the heat of the day make for a humid time to come.

grandma3
03-23-2009, 11:37 AM
i will send you a switch or too, LOL

I too sometimes would like to ring mines neck Kathy but then i get over it and think what if i had of. Then i wouldn't have anything from him to make me want to do it again..Hahaha.

Did you stick him in the corner and tell him to stand on his toes with his nose in a circle about 3 inches taller than he is? That will get him, LOL

Kathy
03-23-2009, 04:45 PM
He's handing over the $, and that hurts more than any switch can, I assure you LOL. It's the darn headlight that costs most of the repair price.

Nice sunny autumn day here cooled down so nicely, still waiting for the splashback and the final touches to the kitchen, we sold our big wall unit and now I can re organise the other bits that need doing.

grandma3
03-23-2009, 06:15 PM
ha Kathy you know that hurt the old belt and pocketbook.

Sounds like your house is coming right along. Maybe before long everything will be in its place.
