Until last year my children had consistently forgotten much of what they had learned during the school year while they were home for summer vacation. Last year, my friend Michele told me to begin an at home summer education program so that my kids would return to school ready to learn and with their knowledge from the previous school year intact.

So last summer I tried summer learning workbooks called Summer Bridge Activities in an informal summer school program that I created. The workbooks are excellent – two-thirds of the book review the grade level my children just left and the final third previews their up-coming grade level. My children enjoy this program.

This is the second summer in a row that I have used the workbooks. Last year the books were in black and white, but this year the workbooks were totally rebuild in full color. The new color books fix some editing errors and are a better product overall. My children love these books and they have started to use the learning games on www.summerbrains.com which is a web site listed in the books.

I like the fact that the books contain reading lists and incentive contract calendars which let me get really involved with my kids.

I’d appreciate it if anyone else has any tips on summer learning.

Thanks,

Arlinda
