View Full Version : Period Information
Well, since dd is learning so much lately about becoming a young woman, with all the films at school and her friends getting their periods....I went in search of the "kit" my mother gave me when I was younger, and guess what, I found someone else who remembers the "kit" and they have a great web site https://www.grownupgirl.net/index.html
I ordered one for dd.

Holy cow!! $29??!!!
I did an emergency pack for dd 2 years ago using a makeup bag, a pair of her own undies, travel size wipes and a couple of pads and she was fine; and it didn't cost me anywhere near that much money. Wow, I'm sorry, I just can't belive someone would charge that much for that stuff.
Dd started her 2nd period today and she just uses the make up bag for a couple of pads and a free Hallmark calendar to mark her days.

I'd never heard of a "kit"... 8o (so obviously never had one.... :) )
$29.00 seems pretty expensive. I like the idea of using a makeup bag. Great idea... ;)

Thanks sista,
I canceled my order and will make my own, not sure what I was thinking, I just had "The kit" in my head.
I can so make my own and customize it for dd!
back in the day, Kotex had a kit they sent free. not sure if they still do.
I am surprised my dd takes it all in stride. Health class in 6th grade covered a lot and she was open to asking me questions. The only thing she has problems with is that it comes every 21 days from the start of her period. The poor thing. I don't remember how often I got it at that age, but in adulthood, it was always 30-36 days AFTER my period ended.

Wow I get mine 27 to 30 days like clockwork! 36 days I would take

Mine came every 28 day's like clockwork. (anywhere between 1:30/2:000) I'd actually put a pad on that morning before leaving for school knowing that it would come and I probably wouldn't have the time to deal with it :) because we only had 3 minutes in between classes...

Ugh... 8o I remember those ugly belts. They were almost as bad as those darn awful garters we had to wear to keep our nylons up.

 I know... I thought it was pretty weird/unusual too.
What's REALLY weird was when dd #3 got her belly button pierced. Every month, about two day's before her period, her piercing would start to bleed a little... so she always knew it was on it's way. That went on for about a year and a half before it finally quit. :) She still doesn't know why/what caused it... but I thought it was kind of strange.

In my younger years, I would dream of seeing a drop of blood falling. I knew that once I woke up to head for the washroom because I would have my period once I sat down. Hasn't happened in so long, years. Now it can't be predicted and hurts like h#!!. I think my body is trying to go by a schedule I had years ago, start on the day it ended the previous month. I should be marking a calendar but that is just one more thing to do. lol

4th grade? 8o Wow... we didn't get any books/information until we were in the 6th grade. I didn't start my period until I was in the 7th grade. Dd #2 started her's in the 6th grade, while the other two didn't start their's until the 7th grade. I always knew about it (girls talk... ;) ) but I never "officially" heard anything until the 6h grade. My mom never once talked to me about it.

The fourth grade just had the "health" video. More about the mechanics of things. My dd has become a deodorant junkie since the movie, lol. She also said that she will bleed every 28 days and put a pad in her underwear, lol. In 5th grade there is more of a "sex" video. In 6th grade they do CPR. http://www.cpr1.org/about_cpr.html (Creating Positive Relationships)

Glad I saved ya some cash! LOL
It's so not a big deal to dd, she tosses a couple of pads in her purse now and off she goes! : )
I am so pleased and proud of how she's handled this whole "new thing". : )
It's hilarious to talk to my friends who's (or whose?) girls are starting and hear how they handled the whole thing "back in the day". LOL
Oh, and I had that d@mn belt!!! UGH, what a horrible memory that is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not what they are doing now. It's how funny how we, the mom's, handled having our periods "back in the day".
Like, I had the horrible belt to deal with. UGH!! Another mom said she used to keep a pad in her knee socks, LOL!!!!!!, so no one would know she had hers by carrying a purse.
Just funny survival stories like that.
