My 93 yr. old grandmother has decided to go ahead and have knee surgery. The doctors advised her that it is a risky operation because she has some sort of blockage and some scar tissue around the heart from a heart attack many years ago, that she never realized she even had. The doctors told my dad and his brother and sister that it had to be grandma's decision, they couldn't make it for her.
She's fully aware that she may not make it. She even asked my mom if she should mention that to people when they call her asking whether she will be having the surgery or not.
I'm taking the kids to see her, hopefully tomorrow or Sunday. The surgery is scheduled for next Thurs.(12).
This is my last grandma. I've gotten so close to her in the past few years and she's has been such an ally(sp?) for me.
I would really appreciate any prayers! Thanks so much!!
Linda,
I was also close to my grandmother-she died 31/2 years ago from colon cancer. So, I know how hard it must be for you. I will
keep you, your family and your grandmother in my prayers.
You're grandma will be in my prayers.
Why is she deciding at 93 that she wants to have the surgery done? Just wondering! You know how when you get older and get something in your mind you just won't listen to what anyone else has to say. I know that's how my grandmas are!

She has a lot of arthritis and I'm guessing the pain is quite severe. My mom said that grandma also wants to be able to go to church again and refuses to use a wheel chair.
Thanks everybody!!
Prayers and good wishes coming your way.
We just went through something similar with my Dad. He's 81 and was diagnosed in the spring with bowel cancer. He has congestive heart failure and knew that having surgery would be risky to say the least (only 25% of his heart is working). He had the surgery on June 11, came through like a trooper and his heart was fine. However, the surgeon did not use anesthetic to put him under, but did the operation only using an epidural on him. I don't know if this is a possibility with your grandmother but it might be worth asking about. My Dad was determined to have the operation as well, even before he knew about the epidural, so I know what you're going through. I hope your grandmother comes out of it as well as my Dad did. Take care!
I like your grandmother's attitude! I hope all works out well.
