View Full Version : Vacation packing thread
What are you must haves? If you care to share...
I am starting to pack for the beach tonight and have my own list, but got to thinking what do other have on their list like MUST HAVE items.
besides clothes and toiletries...sunscreen, hat, magazines, books
littlesista06

sunscreen!!
books
swimsuits (duh) and coverup
then the basic, shorts/capris/t's/undies and toiletries
my philosophy of beach packing - the less the better. our beach is so low key, you don't need to dress up to go anywhere and that's how i like it! flip flops & t's
You're in CA, so you're probably driving to the beach, but for flying, I never pack enough gum, mints, snacks for the trip. Dh saw some of those individual packages of Ritz Bits peanut butter crackers at the grocery store yesterday, and mentioned that he saw someone eating some on our last plane trip and was envious, so I'll pack some of those next time. And maybe a qualude or two since we'll have 5 kids with us and 4 of them are teenagers.
We also ended up having to buy beach towels for a day trip we took, but I'm sure you'll have those or they'll already be at the house.
What beach are you going to?

Light jackets or sweatshirts, Sunscreen, medications (tylenol, rx's, etc), books, ipod, etc.
For the boys: ipods, maybe a handheld game (DS) for the car/plane, magazines, snacks.

beach toys, boogie boards, camera, good shampoo and conditioner. plactic bags for sand/shells they want to take home. my kids always get a rubbing rash on their legs at the crease so I always take the cream to take care of that.

I take swim suits, sunscreen, hats, towels, and toys for the beach/pool. I take undergarmets, toiletries, flip flops, and shorts, capris, and shirts and I usually pack one pair of jeans, and a light jacket or long sleeve shirt just in case. I usually have ds' meds in his diaper bag, and I carry BC in my purse. If we are staying in a hotel, I carry some toys to keep ds occupied.
, I carry BC in my purse. .
birth control???
and we need to know this why???? LOL

No matter where we go I make sure everyone has medication that is needed, sun block, bug spray if needed, purse stuff. Everything else depends on where we are going but I don't leave home for the night without my book.

What the heck is BC powder? And how do you use if for a headache?? I have never heard of it.

For really bad headaches, I always take a BC or a Goodies. They work so much faster than taking a Tylenol or asprin. One of them came out with an orange flavored type, and I have tried it too. I still prefer to take it with a drink, but I can take that one alone in a pinch if no drink is around and I have a bad enough headache. I can't believe ya'll have never heard of them.

Truly, I have NEVER heard of such a thing as headache powder. Now I want to go to Walgreens to see if our stores even SELL it. LOL Do you have tv commercials for this stuff?? LOL What are Goodies? Same headache stuff?
Grits? No...never had them, and no one makes/serves them here. I've heard of them....on t.v. shows! LOL

So I went to the BC site that Ann posted. Kind of confused. So is the BC stuff a tablet that disolves on your tongue? Or is it a powder that you pour in your mouth? Single servings?? Or how is it dispensed? Can't taste very good...
It is like mainlining pure aspirin! LOL
pure powder in an envelope is all i have ever seen.

Never heard of it either, didn't know you could take a pain killer in powder form. Do you mix it with a glass of water? I would think swallowing a pill would be easier. Moon pies, never heard of. Grits, well I do remember "Mel, kiss my grits" on a show as a kid. Was that Alice? LOL Then hearing about them on tv and here, still don't get what they are. lol Never heard of Goodies, to me that's candy the kids ask for. LOL

We ate moonpies as kids and also had RC Cola though I don't know anyone who really drank it. Maybe it's just from their catchy commercial... Me and my RC!
Has anyone heard of "Cheerwine?"

YES! We had it at the beach last year. We can't find it here, so the little girl we had with us, wanted to take bottles of it back home with her.
Have you heard the song "RC cola and a moon pie"?

Yes, Goody's is the same thing as BC, just made by a different company. There are commercials for it. I know Richard Petty used to star in one that featured Goody's.

It comes in single serving packets that are folded up, and you just pour it in your mouth... I usually pour it under my tongue, and then take a huge swallow of something to drink. It does taste very nasty, but the speed in which it works makes it very much worth it.

You don't mix it in water.. you just put it under your tongue and then take a few big gulps of drink trying not to taste it... It really taste nasty, and yes taking an asprin is much easier, but it works so much slower. BCs and Goody's work really fast.
Grits are made out of ground corn and almost everyone hear eats them for breakfast. It is like cream of wheat except it is made out of corn instead of wheat, and we don't eat it sweet.

I loooove grits with american or velveeta cheese. I like them on the soupy side though. I won't eat them if they are too thick. They are really fattening once I add all the cheese, so I don't eat them often. lol I still treat myself to them every once in a while, though.

Beth- we always have cheese grits when we fry fish. My uncle is from Wisconsin, and he claims that he hates grits, though he never tried them. Well, we had fish one time, and he dipped some of the grits. He ate them and then asked his daughter to get him some more creamed corn.... she asked him where it was, and when he went and pointed it out to her... we all laughed because he pointed out the cheese grits.... He loved them, but once he found out they were grits, he wouldn't eat them again.

LOL that's funny. Reminds me of my cousin who loved this "meat" when we went to a cafeteria style restaurant a long time ago. He went back for seconds. After he finished it his mom told him it was liver. He about died, and said he'd never eat it again. lol

God they taste awful! I hate them. It was my gp drug of choice for headache growing up. My dad still uses them, but just gag at the thought of taking one. Haven't been to the site but what I know comes in little paper envelopes of powder (single dose). Goodies Powders are pretty much the same thing.
