Hello everybody, I have heard a lot about people saying and talking about organic foods. I would like to know that what are the benefits of eating them and what are the various types organic foods……….like which one are better for the body and good supplements too.
organic simply means that there were no preservatives or pesticides used in the process of growing, making or canning the product.

I don't know how truly "organic" products that claim to be organic really are--I don't believe there is any real testing or regulations regarding calling your products "organic", are there? And if you have an organic farm downhill from a farm that uses pesticides, how do you know that the rain doesn't wash their pesticides down onto your fields?
I choose meats that don't have hormones and are "natural"--I hate seeing a chicken breast that's bigger than a turkey breast...that's just not normal!

I thought there were regulations. I mean, idk about the organic farm downhill from a farm that uses pesticides, but I thought the rest was covered. We took the kids on a field trip to Shamrock Farms (dairy) and were told that they were one step away from being certified organic. She said the only thing that they didn't do yet was to feed their cattle with food that had not been treated with pesticides. They used no steriods, etc., any cow on any kind of meds was milked separately and the milk thrown out. I can't remember what else, but they were close. I guess that's why I thought that.
To me, organic is good from the standpoint that you're avoiding some of the bad stuff. Maybe not all, but at the very least your body doesn't have to deal with the wax that coats a lot of the non-organic veggies. If you have an organic cucumber and a non-organic cucumber guess why the non-organic lasts so long. Anyway, I'm rambling!

dh and I age nothing but Organic for about a month and after that, I couldn't stand watching everything I ate anymore. That and... although it's better for you, it's also very expensive. We still eat a few things organic, but were no longer totally organic. ;)

They may have regulations in place now, Pam--I just remember someone telling me that they read an article about this a couple of years ago. It would be great if there are indeed regulations in place.
They really can be expensive, Diane. I almost bought an organic watermelon two years ago at Wild Oats (Whole Foods now) and told the cashier to take it off the bill because it came to around $30! That said, I think Trader Joe's is pretty reasonable considering.
I only by organic milk that has no hormones or antibiotics and, like I said, I buy the natural meats, but whether I buy organic veggies depends on if they are on sale or not.

Don't quote me because I may not be remembering right, Mick. Yikes about the price of the milk! 8o
