Edited because I just re-read the title of the post and it made me laugh! Really... I do know how to do ds's K homework!

Ds2 (5yo) started Kinder last month. The teachers told us to expect light homework, just some things to re-inforce what they've been learning throughout the day. Homework folders go home on Monday and are returned on Friday. Ds got his folder today and it just seems like a lot of homework for K! 8o Can you tell me if it sounds normal or a bit over the top?

Bible verse w/corresponding picture to draw or color (2 Cor. 5:17 - NOT a short one!)
2 color each color word worksheets
Letter "P" handwriting worksheet
1 word trace/color worksheet
1 graph worksheet (front & back)
1 write the # worksheet (front & back)
1 circle the number worksheet
1 book to read
3 sight words (down from five the first week)

These things I am assuming they sent home for him to finish since he was out sick last Friday.
1 trace the # worksheet (short one)
Finish 1 side of a beginning sounds worksheet
word copy page.

Um... it looks worse now that I've written it out! 8o

Yes...that seems like a lot to me. I send home a homework folder, also. However, it has only one activity at a time in it...and never anything to just "color". During the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters, they bring home books to read every night or every other night. (Never over a weekend)

I don't really believe in homework for Kindergartners...I just give them a little to get them into the "habit" of bringing something home and returning it completed. My class begs for homework...they think it's so "cool". LOL Uh...wait until 3rd grade, kids! It starts to be so un-cool!

That is a lot! How are you supposed to have time for reading each night too! Maybe they are trying to give a bunch of homework at the beginning of the year when kids are sort of excited about it, lol.

I don't think my kids ever had homework when they went to kindergarten, but of course... that was many years ago and things might have changed, but it does seem like a lot to me. I never liked homework to consume my children's entire evening after they came home from school. (like dd #3 did in the 5th grade) They need some time for themselves... otherwise they didn't do their homework well, rushing through it just to get it done and out of the way.
