In keeping up with the latest movies-who do you think rules
Cats or Dogs? I have one of each so my house is divided. :cat:

I haven't seen the movie and we currently don't have either kind of pet in the house. When we did though the cat definitely ruled! The dog just stayed out of his way! LOL

I love cats (not the shedding though). I like Dogs too but a little too licky and jumpy for me. Cats (some) like to cuddle and feel cuddly. They are smaller generally which is also a plus. My dh's family had 2 dogs when we were dating. They both came up to his hip (he's 6' 4"). I like smaller dogs much more. We currently live in a mobile home and don't have room to keep any animals cleaned up after (like shedding) so we don't have any right now. We had 2 cats and a dog and I just about went crazy trying to keep the hair halfway cleaned up. Cookie our dog was over 14 years old and had a wetting problem (she was cute and sweet though, mountain walker/ beagle mix). We finally got rid of her. :( And our cats who were originally dh's moms cats went back to her house much to her dislike bc she already had 5.... But they were the sweetest cats. Sister and Cindy. Cindy was a grey tiger who had the softest hair I had ever felt on a short hair cat (almost like rabbit fur).

I'm definitely a dog person. I wish I had the time and energy to add one to my family, but it wouldn't be fair to the poor animal to live in a chaotic home. LOL

The point (between cats and dogs) is that cats don't care if you like them or not. Dogs want to be friends and family members. Just MHO- biased as can be. ;)

ITA!!! :)

Definitely a dog person here. :)

Anyone have outdoor cats? We are considering getting one when we move, but I'm not big on cats and want to know if that matters? LOL! Since we'll be in the country the current owners say they get mice in the garage and have a cat to prevent them from going in the house. I'm definitely willing to try life with a cat vs. life with mice in my house! 8o Also, this may seem like a completely stupid question, but I know pretty much nothing about cats....how do you keep them from running away? Do they just roam wherever they want and then come home as they please? ?(

Karla, my dad has a barn cat for the reason you mentioned--he's a good "mouser". Every time I'm there, he hides, but my dad says he's a sweet cat.

I don't really dislike cats, but I often wonder what comfort they give their owners. Most cats I see tend to spend much of the day hiding.

Dogs show emotion baby! They jump, wag their tails, lick you... oh I just love dogs. We don't have one now b/c they are so difficult to care for... but I love them.

When thinking of the continuing cat/dog debate I am reminded by a girl I dated in college. Her dad told her "Never date a guy who doesn't like cats. They are very independent and so are you. If he can't handle cats he'll never be able to deal with you!"

Im definitely a dog person. My kids love their cat because he is carrying size. LOL Our cat is really cool-a lot like a dog. He pees and poops outside, only bothers you when he wants to be fed and puts up with being carried all over the house. Heck, I even gave the poor thing a bath yesterday.

MM! Roosters rule the roost here !

We have 4 dogs, 2 of which are excellent mousers. Cookie (an English Springer) taught Max (a German Shepard) to hunt for mice and rats in the chicken coop. I hope Sandy Licker ( a golden Lab) will learn to hunt rats and mice instead of chicks. Things would be much calmer here :) .

HH won't let me bring another animal home unless I agree to sleep outside with them;) .

I'd like to have a cat.

to be most certain DOGS :doggie: especially since I am allergic to cats....

I too am allergic to cats but at one point owned 3 till I started having trouble breathing and had to give them all away. Love cats. I've also owned many dogs and the one we now have is just too precious. But in terms of personality I think you have to say that cats rule ! You have to deal with cats by their rules not yours. I've never known a cat to "bend over backwards" to please like dogs will.

I am definetly a dog person. Dh and I are going to get one when we get a place. I have never been too impressed with cats.

Nor they with you (us - people). That's why I think they rule.
I think that is why most people have said they are "dog people".

I think cat's are neat because they are independent. Most of the cats I've know are friendly. I have only met a few that didn't like being petted or seen. But even those cats have warmed up toward me with a little coaxing. I have a hard time snuggling with a dog (between not so cuddly fur, bad breath, slobber, etc.) but cats generally have soft fur, don't usually drool, when they lick you their tongue is not slobbery, you usually can't smell their breath... You get the drift.

Also all of the cats I've owned (which amounts to quite a few over the years) have always been rather lovey when they know someone doesn't feel well.
I also had a cat who was very emotional once. Everytime my mom would put him in the basement at night he would cry (sounded just like a baby crying). I would open the laundry shoot and talk to him "it's ok Sammy you can go to sleep"... kinda funny...

Looking at it from a kingly rule, I still think cats do because I rarely have met a cat that would let a dog push them around.. lol.

The other funny thing I thought of when I reread this post is for some reason I have the habit of calling cats her, she, etc. and dogs he, him, his etc. even when I know what they are.

I just wanted to say that we went to the drive-in and saw the Cats and Dogs movie tonight. Here's my review: PEEE-EWWW! I thought it stunk! LOL! But ds liked it--in between climbing on the car and taking off and putting on his sandals and opening and closing the lawn chair and car doors and playing with the radio, blankets, cooler, etc.

You crack me up! That is definitely why I am a dog person. Cats will cuddle with you, but out of all of the cats I have seen, their playing is limited, and they don't seem too impressed with people. Dogs are a lot more active and playful in my opinion. If I could find a real playful cat, I probably would love him or her the same, and btw my aunt wants me to put in a vote for cats for her. She is a cat fanatic.

The kids have been bugging for a dog for a long time and we are considering it but have just discovered that our barn has two resident cats. Don't know if they belonged to the previous owners or just strays. They seem very friendly and used to people. Love to be pet and played with. The kids have named them Clarence and Sasha. Don't know where they came up with the names but the cats don't seem to mind.
Myself, I prefer dogs. Cats are ok if they are outdoor cats but I wouldn't want one in my house.

Mick...my mom took the kids to see it while we were gone, they were just so so about it, but she hated it!!! She couldn't believe how evil the cat was (she is a life long cat hater), she said she always knew they talked that way!!! LOL

Okay, cat person here.

At this time we have a wonderful dog that I adore. He protects us, loves us, is just so sweet.

I had a cat, Mia, for eleven years. She's been gone almost that long and I STILL miss her! She would come out to my car when she heard me drive up and wait for me. If I was sad, she would lay on my chest and put her paws on my face. She would sit on the side of the tub and splash when I took a bath. She would just wrap herself around me and purrrrrrrr when we were together. She was playful (in her cat way, no she didn't chase the ball, but let me tell you sometimes I wish our dog were more cat-like in THAT regard!) and we had a great time together. She was quiet, and gentle, and affectionate, and I LOVED her.

We don't have a cat right now because the kids are too small, but soon, very soon I hope to bring another kitty to our home!

Now Mia sounds very sweet! I have met cats that were like that, but most cats I've known were tom cats and were always scrappy and bloody, with an ear or part of their tail missing. I went to pet one of my neighbor's cats one day and she screamed, "DON'T TOUCH HIM!!!" Pumpkin was obviously not very nice. When I was a teen, another one of my neighbor's cats came into her room (where we were listening to the radio), jumped up on her bed and proceded to spray the wall. Another one of her cats pooped on her sister's pillow. So...those are the kinds of cat encounters I've had. The ones I did like, seriously acted like dogs--came when you called them, wanted to sleep with you, cuddled, played, etc.

Okay, Mick, I am NOT making this up. I had a roommate that had a Bloodhound. This dog was STINKKKKKKKYYY! He had tumors in his ears, and man, he made you want to barf! One day I was out and this dog went into our kitchen, took a bag of flour OUT OF THE CUPBOARD, carried it into MY room (not my roommates, his owner) climbed ONTO MY BED, and shook out the bag of flour! Then he proceeded to drool all over it and made a kind of bread dough. Nice doggie. Uh huh.
