View Full Version : how old is your mattress?
dh and I have a full size bed that is probably about 13 to 14 years old...still in good shape but you know....its small and we are both complaining about sore shoulders and backs lately...not that we are old or anything... LOL.....just curious how old everyone elses beds are, and if any of you have those airfilled ones that you see late night on infomercials....LOL....TIA

I've still got the same waterbed/matress that I had fifteen years ago and I still sleep wonderfully in it. I've heard that they are "suppose" to cause back problems... but mine really seems to help me. I'd LOVE to try one of those air matresses though. One of my friends has one and her and her dh absolutely love it and they swear they'll never sleep in anything else. A few weekends ago they went away for the weekend and had to stay at a hotel. She said that they had a very hard time getting to sleep on a regular matress. I guess if I were ever going to make a change I think that's the way I would go... even though I've heard that they are very expensive. :)

Dh and I got a new mattress set shortly after we got married - I suppose it's about 6 years old. I put one of those "waffle" pad things on it so it's really comfy. :) I have heard those airfilled mattresses are wonderful.

Hi Renee! How are you feeling???
Our mattress is approx 9 yrs old. Still comfy. We have one of those waffle foam pads over it too. Dr. recommended it when my leg was giving me so much problems.
What is an air filled mattress?
:)
I'm feeling ok, my lump on my neck is really starting to show now...LOL... maybe I am just getting used to seeing it, but I notice others looking at me....oh well....still not smoking and thats a good thing, even lost 2 pounds in the last week so I guess thats a good thing....
an air mattress has air filled chambers that you can adjust to your own comfort levels, so dh could have soft and I could have firm, or visversa....they look really comfortable and also pricy....well have to see if we can afford it....

We bought a king size set in Nov 99 when we moved to WA. DH wanted to replace our set much earlier but I resisted so we'd have one less thing to move! The previous set was one of those reupholsted cheapies. We didn't have enough money for a completely new one after having moved to CA but DH was sick of the waterbed we had prior to getting married in AZ. Never ever buy one of those re-done mattresses!

We had a waterbed until about 6 years ago. Dh was already having back problems back then and was told waterbeds weren't good for backs. My folks got us a queen size regular type mattress. I personally think it's the most uncomfortable mattress. I started having an aching back after we got that. This past winter we invested in an air mattress. It's not one of the really expensive ones. ( think this was around $300.) It is just the mattress and it fits on our frame. I don't know that it's really that comfortable. I think it's better than the old mattress, but I still have a lot of backaches from it. I'm ready for another water bed but dh really likes it.
Our mattress is about 2 years old and I hate it. It's a Sealy. I'm thinking of putting it in the guest room and buying a new one. I think I'll give the bedroom furniture in the guest room to oldest ds who has moved out. I want new furniture in there too. Right now he doesn't have room for it, but when he does I want a Simmons Beauty Rest pillow-top with individually pocketed coils for myself. We had one without the pillow-top and gave it to youngest ds when we bought his new bedroom furniture. It's really the best mattress in the house. Just waiting for everything to fall into place.

Dh and I have a waterbed now, but the bed we had in Germany was about 13 years old. I think that if we didn't get the waterbed it would have been about time to get a new mattress.

We've had our mattress since we got married, so I guess about 10 years now. It is still in great shape. We got one of the thicker mattresses with the pillow topper. It's a pain trying to find the deep pocket sheets to fit, but worth the effort. I had a water bed when I was a teenager, but ended up with sore back and legs. The doctor recommeded a regular mattress and that did the trick, I never had a problem again. I slept in a air bed once at a cousins place. It was great.

We've had our bed for 9 or 10 years. It's a cal. king, pillowtop. Won't go with pillowtop again...the polyester filling breaks down and while you can't see any dips, you can feel them--and we were faithful mattress flippers for years! ;) LOL! I'd like a new one. My sis mentioned the air ones. Might look into them next time.
