This was emailed out to all members, but I thought I should post it here as well:
I apologize for the boards being closed all day yesterday. We had hoped for a seamless move to the new server, but unfortunately we encountered some problems and will need to redo everything later today.
I have reopened the boards for now as I am sure you are all anxious to get back on :) The boards will close again later today, I just don't have an ETA for you on that.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Once we get the site and boards moved over to the new server, you may or may not be able to access the message boards. Here's what happens:
1) we move the files to the new server
2) we update the "DNS" record which is what tells the internet what the website's "street address" is so to speak. It CAN take up to 48 hours for that change to take affect. Some members may be able to access the boards while others may not.
3) The old server will have the boards closed, and the new server will show them open. If you see them closed after the move then your ISP has not updated yet (see #4) or the DNS change hasn't taken affect in your area (see #3).
4) The other factor involved is that your own ISP (internet service provider) may not update their DNS as often as others do. Some may update twice a day, while others may only do it once or twice a week.
I know it's difficult to miss your favorite message boards, so again I apologize for the delay! We anticipate the next attempt to be successful, and hopefully seamless.
We will email out a temporary address for you to use so that you can access the boards right away on the new server so that the above scenario will not affect you. :)
