When you make pasta (spaghetti/mac&cheese, etc.) How long do you cook it for and do you let it boil the whole time, or let it sit in the water?

I let my water come to a boil, then add the pasta, and let it set for 10-12 minutes - then drain.:goofy: What do you do??

I let my water come to a boil, add the pasta, then boil it until it's done, then drain. :D

Is there a difference it it's boiled or if it just sits in the water?

I boil the water, then add the pasta and turn it down to simmer then cook it as long as needed....macaroni usually only need 7 or so min, spaghetti about 10 min.

Doesn't it all clump together if you just let it sit without the water still simmering around it?

bring water to a roaring boil, add pasta, stir, bring back to a roaring boil, then cover, turn off burner, and let sit for 11 minutes or so....if it cheap pasta a little less time to sit....

also add a little salt to your boiling water so it make the pasta less sticky.....

I do the same. When cooking spaghetti I add a touch of olive oil to the water.

I bring salted water to a boil. Then I add noodles, and let them continue to boil about 10 min or until done. I then drain, and before I put them back in the pan I spray it with something like Pam.

I bring water to boil, add pasta, continue to boil and stir until al dente... then drain and put sauce on...
