Do you have one in your area and do you take advantage it?
I've sold quite a few things on ours. I've bought some stuff and we've gotten our kittens for free there, too! :thumb:

andyandlexismom, I have checked out the Craigs List in my area but have never listed anything. I always wondered how well it works. Have you had a good experience with it? I have a few things I would like to get rid of so was wondering about listing them on Craig's List.

I have had a pretty good experience with it. I've had a couple of no shows but that's it.
I usually make contact through email with the people and then exchange phone numbers and talk that way.
I always ask for cash that way I don't get stuck with checks that bounce.
For good sales, it helps to have pictures of everything. I always ask for pics of everything that I'm going to buy, unless it's something that really doesn't need to be seen ahead of time.
Just recently I bought some clothes off of a lady for my daughter. I probably walked away with less than half of what I had planned on buying because her descriptions of "great condition" did not match mine at all--and I saw pictures of the clothes ahead of time but the pictures weren't taken up close so I really couldn't tell how worn they were. That hasn't happened a lot, though.
I have had a few people try to get me to lower the price once they get here to buy the item. I don't budge on the price because I know that I price my stuff at really good prices, I don't try to make a lot of money off the things that I sell. I figure if they are willing to come to get it, they are willing to pay what I was asking.
I never have anyone come to my house to pick things up. I either meet them in front of our apt. office or up the road at the gas station or Mc D's. You can't be too trusting!!
Good luck if you give it a try. It's sort of addicting once you start selling stuff. You'll probably starting looking for things to sell. lol!!!

I've never tried Craig's List...I don't think there is one around where I live...
Might have to check and see if there is one...
Smiles & hugs...

andyandlexismom, thank you for all the info on selling on Craig's list. I had never even thought of not letting someone come to my house so that was a great tip. I do have a computer monitor to sell and I am sure I have a few other things as well so will have to take some pics and list them and see what happens.

i sometimes check on the free site just to see what people are giving away on there but also have never sold. When I lived in Pa., we used to have a pretty good free section going--there and also FreeCycle. Now that I live in NC, the freebie don't flow nearly as much. lol!

Be careful when selling stuff...there's another story out there of someone getting robbed at their home while trying to sell a game system!
SCARY!!

Yes! I heard that on the news too. The best thing to do when selling items on craigslist is:
1) do not give out your address
2) meet the potential buyer in a public place around plenty of people
3) if you must stay home, ask a neighbor to keep on eye out and meet the buyer outside your house, do not invite them in.
if you are selling something that requires that the buyer come in, don't do it when you are alone in the house. Be sure that there are a couple of people with you. Also, have your phone or cell phone in your hand (hopefully you have 911 on speed dial) and press the speed dial button if you need help. There's no need to bring the phone to your ear, police are required to respond to all 911 calls, regardless if the caller says anything or not.
Be careful out there. Craigslist is a great avenue to sell stuff, but there are lots of desperate people out there, so be on your guard.

oh yes well that would go for freecycle too. Anymore you can't be too careful. Better safe than sorry.

you use to be able to trust anyone at their word and now sometimes i've seen circumstances where you can't even trust your own neighbor
