I meant to ask this at the end of the school year but never posted it. For my son's 3rd grade teacher one of the moms organized a memory book. Each child was asked to decorate a page and return it. It thought it would be spiral bound and given to her and that would be it - minimal cost. A few days before the end of the year we got a letter from the head mom asking for $5 per student to cover the expenses of the memory book. Seems like the memory book mom had spent $70 on an album, page covers, stickers, etc. I really didn't mind sending the money and the book did turn out very nice, but I can't help but think the teacher would have preferred having $70 worth of something else. I mean, parents appreciate that kind of stuff, but wouldn't a teacher rather have some gift certificates for a restaraunt or something? If there had been no money involved I'd think it was a great gift, but I can't help but think a teacher would have liked us to choose another gift given the amount of money involved. Tell me what ya'll think.
