How long does birth control take to get out of your system?

My DH and I have been trying to get preg since Dec. No luck yet. We have a six year old daughter so know we are both capable but It has just not happend. I was on BC for 6 years and stoped taking them in Dec. How long does it take? I have heard so many different view on it. Thanks in advance for your advice....

I think it varies with the perscription, person, and length of time they were taken. I got pregnant while taking them for 4 years. It took my best friend years after stopping and she had only been on them for a short time.

I'm no expert but I think there are a number of easy things you can do to increase your chances. If you have a hot tub stop using it. Heat decreases sperm production. Make sure DHs pants / underware are loose. Same reason as heat. I've heard that a woman taking cold medicine can loosen the vaginal mucus and make conception easier but that sounds a little iffy to me. I've also heard that pelvic massages can help. A massage sounds fun to me so may not hurt! I've heard some stuff about the acidity level of the uterus et al having an effect. I'm not sure what to do to make it at a beneficial level though. BTW - Some reasearch says the acidity level can effect if you have a girl or a boy. I forget with but one is hardier than the other and tends to survive in a more acidic enviroment than the other. One is a quicker swimmer and tends to get there first in a less acidic enviroment. Guess it isn't just the man that determines the sex of a baby!

According to *The science of sex* a TV series on TLC or Discovery, an orgasm for the woman helps increase chances. Something about the orgasm making the cervix dip repeatedly and help the sperm along. That one sounds great to me!

took us 10 months with the first to conceive after my wife went off the pill.

My doctor told me that it is good to be off of the pill for 3 months before becoming pregnant. Something about a higher probability of miscarriage? Dh and I got pregnant the first month after going off of the pill both times.

We got pregnant about 2 months after getting off the pill. It took my sister-in-law nearly 3 years, she used a ovulation predictor and got pregnant the first time around.
