MM! OK I'll ask it. Where is Chandra Levy? ßß!
My mother thinks she got pregnant and Condit said "sweetie, you and I will be together, just go out of town for a while, while I take care of things" and then she was killed. (my mom has a very vivid imagination! LOL)
I don't think she is alive, but I don't know what happened.
What's really weird for me is I am reading Ann Rule's book about Anne Fahey (secretary to the Governor of Delaware) disappearance and murder and the killer was a weathly influential man....I keep getting the facts of the book and Chandra case mixed together!!! LOL

I think she's dead as well. Guessing that Codit did it or more likely had it done, but I doubt if it will ever be proved. In fact I doubt if they'll ever even find the body. Some of the things I find unsettling - a scream (not given much creadence), the 911 call (think its related to the scream but not sure), her computer logged onto with password and used to surf travel sites after her dissappearance. Also the airline stewardess, Anna Marie Smith, saying (in sworn statement?) that Condit asked her to lie about their relationship. Also, wasn't he the one that said he was concerned about suicide? Nobody else?
My suspicion is that she either got pregnant (which I heard a rumour of) or the relationship ended, probably by her. Then he had her killed and body disposed of. The travel site stuff is a red herring to give reasonable doubt. Last I heard the local police were ready to close the case. Sounds awfully early to me. I also heard that CBS has yet to do a story on it. That surprises me since its the woman's family wants publicity to help solve this. And it involves public figures.
Suicide is unlikely since there isn't a body. So is an accidental death for the same reason. I guess it's possible she decided to dissappear but that seems unlikely for someone that had so much going for them. For a 24 yr old she seems to have been a go getter.

I don't think she's alive either. :( What are the chances that she willingly took off and then even with all of the publicity wouldn't contact someone. I also don't think it's suicide or a tragic accident as I feel like there would be a body or at the very least a note or suspicion from others in the case of a suicide. I do think she was murdered - obviously I don't know by whom, but I do feel like if Condit really had nothing to hide that he wouldn't have lied in the beginning. I feel for her family. :(

Face the Nation on CBS this week was all about this--they had Police Chief Charles Ramsey there and asked him all kinds of questions. He said that there was not only internet activity after the scream was heard and the police were called that day, but Chandra actually e-mailed her mother during that time on line. But, that could have been a draft she previously wrote and didn't send or even typed by someone else.
I think Condit had something to do with it--not that he personally did anything...and he probably didn't even know about it. I think someone looking out for him probably "took care of the problem" for him and didn't tell him or give him details in order to protect him (suspecting that Condit may one day have to take a lie detector test). I still think it was awful that he lied about the affair. That was a time when any info was vital and he lied and let that window pass. Think he should at the very least be charged with obstructing justice for doing that.

Hi all. Being a CDN I have no idea who you are talking about, but it sure sounds mysterious.....what's up?

Darlene-
I'll try to give a rundown. Chandra was an intern for a government official, Condit. About 11 weeks ago she disappeared. They know she was at her health club and canceled membership. She was getting ready to return home in CA for her college graduation. There was a scream heard but that isn't considered very reliable. Something about a 911 call. Again, it may not pertain. Her computer was used from 9 to 1 and the pattern of use fit her pattern and her password was used. E-mails were sent and travel sites were visited.
Since then it has been found that she was having an affair with Condit who is married. He at first denied it was anything more than friendship and I think said he thought she might be suicidal. There's something about a magazine/newspaper *Talk* that was going to break the story of their affair. One report attributed to his spin doctor claimed she frequently had one night stands. The person attributed to that claim has denied making it. Another reporter that investigated Chandra for 2 months says she was a one man woman. I think he has a very good alibi with his wife. He also had a private company give him a lie detector test and turned it over to the police.
The two main things that make Condit a suspect in manys eyes are the fact that most crimes are commited by someone that knows the victim and his initial coverup. The police have been back and forth.
AS per CBS - This was last week (Friday?)that I heard about CBS not mentioning Chandra/Condit. Face The Nation is on Sunday. Maybe the show was a response to their non-coverage critisism? This week only CBS's Dan Rather has been brought up as not mentioning it which is out of character for him. In fact there's a web site devoted to his coverage of past stories compared to this one that I haven't gone to. Probably because he came under fire a couple of months ago. He was breaking network rules and speaking at a Democratic fund raiser. His daughter was the planner and he said he didn't realize it was a fundraiser. That's brought his credibility under scrutiny.

What do you all think about the new anonymous tip ? Apparently it was very detailed. Her poor family, this must be incredibly difficult.

Karla, the authorities (FBI?) recieved an anonymous tip off a website. It was 3 pages typed, single spaced, very detailed telling them that Chandra Levy's body was buried underneath a parking lot, I think in Virginia but I'm not sure. So far this morning I haven't heard further.
Thats amazing because I haven't heard a darn thing yet!! I have even checked my MNBC homepage and not a thing about it on it! How did Canada hear about it before us?/

WOW! Whether or not this tip holds any truth this must be so difficult for the family - so many ups & downs and just not knowing. :( Thanks for the update!

Amy/CO - don't feel bad. I hadn't heard it yet either and I'm a news buff! Last I heard they had gotten a call about a woman's body in some marsh area and had the dogs out - again.
I'm starting to revise my opinion that Condit had it done.

Can you elaborate? Do you still think he is involved or not? The feds certainly don't seem to think so from everything I've read. I just hope they find her and get some closure for her poor family. I wonder if they will ever find out exactly what happened?

Well, unfortunately or fortunately for the Levy family, the tip was a hoax. Here is the newslink:

I agree, Renee...and I think it's very possible that someone had it done FOR him, without actually telling him they did or giving him any details (to protect him--hence, the clean lie detector test).
Anyone see the special on 20/20 last week about young beautiful interns and rich powerful politians in Washington D.C.? Sickening.
p.s. LOL! Kathy...that WORLD wide web IS amazing, isn't it??? ;) LOL!!!

Kathy - I'm not convinced of his innocence in this murder but I'm thinking it is more and more likely that he didn't do it. He did have a major motive - keeping her mouth shut about the affair. But nowadays most American's are desensitized to that stuff. The sad fact is that many people don't care if he is unethical as well as immoral. Shoot we have a congressman voted in after being impeached as a judge! I do think he behaved in an appauling manner. But then I think many politicians forget why they are there. I'd prefer politicians not make it a career or get there by being a lawyer first. Even if politics is the family business, I'd prefer that they have other background experiences as well.
Condit's lying about the affair in the first place made me suspicious. I don't hold not wanting a lie detector test done on him by the police against him. I wouldn't either and I KNOW I didn't do it! He did have one done that showed he had no knowledge. Of course, I don't give that one much credibility either.
The thing that is starting to persuade me is his helping the FBI profilers come up with a profile of Chandra. I wouldn't want to try lying to a group full of people who's job it is to come to conclusions about people, especially criminals. If I had either commited a murder, or wanted it done, I wouldn't get near a profiler.
I don't give the story about her having keys made much credence. For one thing it is so far after the fact. If he *really* saw her why what nearly 2 months to remember? And why the switch in stories over how she paid? First he said with a credit card then with cash. I think he just wanted attention or convinced himself he saw her.
I haven't heard much more about this. Did they decide not to search the marsh area? Wasn't that near Fort Lewis?
