View Full Version : Broken bones
Well, my 12 yr old really did it! He flew off a neighbors trampoline and broke both of his arms. He's in pretty bad shape. Can't do anything for himself. Anyone have any experience with this before?

OMG... the poor kid!!! Sorry, I've have never had any experiences with broken bones. (thank GOD) I guess I've never heard of anyone breaking BOTH arms at the same time... couldn't even imagine how helpless he must be feeling, and how exhausted you must be feeling trying to do everything for him. I hope someone here has some good idea's/suggestions for you. Good luck!!! :)
Diane...
Poor thing. Both arms. Ds broke both bones in his right arm clean through trying to skip as many bars as he could on the monkey bars when he was six. Was in a cast from his wrist to his shoulder after surgery to re-set them. Hospital in town wouldn't even touch him. Kids mend quickly. Hope this is true for yours.

Poor Kid! So sorry to hear about your son! I have never had to deal with broken bones with my kids and the only broken bones I have ever had was my ankle and my wrist. My sister-in-law had to deal with a broken arm and broken back at the same time and she found that it was much easier on them if she just turned her couch into my nephews bed and just left him there pretty much. He couldn't walk, had to be carried to the bathroom and was only given sponge baths. He was the middle child and the youngest girl played "mommmy" most of the time and went and got things for him and helped him eat and drink. The oldest one also helped feed him and take care of him to take some of the pressure off my sister-in-law.
I hope everything works out okay.....

So sorry to hear of your ds accident! Yikes! My ds broke his arm when he was 3....he had a plaster cast and it was heavy.
If your ds has plaster casts, see if they can be changed to fiberglass ones....much lighter and can take a little wetness without falling apart.
If he gets itchy.....let him use a ruler to slide into his cast to scratch with. Cornstarch is supposed to help the itch too, but will build up and get kinda smelly if he has to wear the casts for a long time. Does he have the casts up to his shoulders or just to his elbow?
Plastic bags over them when he wants to bathe. Speciallty cast covers are available at the pharmacy where I live, but are fairly expensive. But, if he will have the casts on for a long time, they would probably be worth the investment.
Extra pillows on his bed to prop his arms up on will make it more comfortable to sleep.
Hope he heals quickly!
:)
no advice, but I am so sorry your ds has to go through this....how horrible.....I have always thought that those tampolines were dangerous....yikes....
