View Full Version : fingernails? real or fake?
I still have my manicuring licsense from way back when, and got bored late last night, so I gave myself some acrylic nails...they look ok, did the french manicure painting on them so they at least look natural that way....but it got me to thinking that the real ones always look better.......what does everyone else have? can you tell I am a little bored today too...LOL...

Mine are real. I have only had fake ones once and that was for my wedding. I couldn't afford manicures on a regular basis. When I starting taking prenatal vitamins while pregnant my nails grew like crazy and have been pretty strong and long since then. I love having long nails. :) You're lucky you have the option to put your own acrylic nails on. I would love to do that on my nails when one breaks. My sister and I both put super glue our nails if they get a crack in them. :D

I was a nail biter for a long time. I used to have fake nails put on to try and stop myself from biting them. I haven't had them in a long time though. After I started changing diapers I didn't much want to put my hands in my mouth even after washing them!!
It was always such a shock having the nails put on. I couldn't even zip my pants without trouble!!

Real! And they're crappy (the matrix was damaged as a result of an allergic reation to chemicals when I did hair)! But, they are much crappier after I've had tips on!

Right now I have my regular nails (real), but I LOVE to get my nails done - they always look so nice. I usually take my older dd with me, and she gets a little manicure while I get mine done. She likes the airbrushed things on her nails (usually flowers, hearts or butterflies).
I had the acrylic ones one for about 6 months, and I'd like to get them on again. I like them better because my real nails are always breaking, and stuff! I don't look good in colored polished nails, so I always get the french manicure done. I have them cut them pretty short, cause I can't do anything when they are long! Now that you have me thinking about it - I am going to make an appointment to get them done!

Real! I'm a nail-biter at times, though. So they're not very long...nor polished!

Mine are real. How long do you think a manicure should last? Nothing fancy - just polish. There is one salon in town that I've gone to twice. After the 1st time I said I wouldn't go back again because the polish was chipping off within 24 hours. I found another lady that I like - her equipment isn't as fancy (no massaging pedicure chairs!), but her manicures are better and the polish lasts longer. The lady I like was on vacation last week so I went back to the other place. The same thing happened - within 24 hours my polish was a mess! I'd had an American manicure done, which I really liked. BTW - can anyone tell me the difference between an American and a French manicure? They look the same to me.
REAL! (This is my one true bragging right! LOL! :) )
When I was young I always bit my nails and one day I just stopped. I had fake nails for a while in high school when I worked at a grocery store because my real ones were always breaking.
My nails grow very fast and they are very strong. If I put nail polish on them it actually makes them weaker and I'm not sure why. The best thing is that my nails grow so white at the top that people always ask me if I have a french manicure. They usually think I'm lying when I say they grow that way. But they really do! My moms are the same way as well as my ds. My dd didn't get as lucky, hers aren't very white, but they grow just as fast!

Donna, a French manicure is when the nails are polished with a pink or tan sheer color where the nail bed is and the free-edge (that part of your nail that extends past the bed) is painted white. Not sure what an American manicure is--unless it's just the good-old cuticle removing, filing and polishing kind. Also, I had a manicurist who used some clear stuff that was tinted purple as a top coat (I think it was actually some type of adhesive maybe?) and when she used that, my polish NEVER chipped. Not sure what the name of it is, though. But polish should definitely last longer than one day, imo.

Same thing happened to me. I treated myself to a french manicure the day before I went to the hospital to have ds - the poilish was chipping off the very night I got them done. :{ For the tips they used some thing that sprayed the tips white and it seemed more like a powder than polish and it just didn't stay on well. I never went back to that place.

Mine are real.....and brittle! They grow fast, but my thumbnails always crack just where the nail starts to grow past my thumb.
I don't wear polish on my fingernails becuase I tend to always sit and chip it off! But my toenails look great!
Tried fake nails one year at Halloween. Everything was okay until I went to the bathroom and then had to pull up my nylons....what an ordeal!

Mine are real here too!! I have them trimmed short for piano lessons. I did get jealous of my friends fake nails. I asked her how often she got her nails done. She said every two months.
Her nails always look great!! Now if they could just make a polish to last that long!!

Can't work with anything other that real. Tried the fake twice and ended up cutting them off within the week. Dh would die if I ever tried it again - $$$
I work on a computer all day at an Internet Co and could not type with long nails. Don't let them get any longer than my tips now!
never heard of an American Manicure, Now I haven't been in the "Active Business" for some time, so that might be a new one on me.....as far as the polish lasting longer it should....I always have tipped the end of the nail, meaning painted the edge of the nail, kinda underneath...does that make sense? on an acrylic its simple, but on a real nail, lots of topcoat seems to make the polish last longer, and then under/at the edge.....

Real, and finally starting to grow.
Real and like my hair the older I get, the shorter they get. I was always known for my long nails. Now I just keep them short and wear only clear polish. That way if it chips - who knows. I do use color on my toenails. I gave them a french pedicure the other day. Love it!

My nails are my own. :) When I first tried growing my nails out I tried the fake fingernails. Although I loved the way they looked... I found them extremely difficult to work with. They weren't very long but they FELT like they were about a foot long. LOL I could hardly do a thing while wearing them, they were constantly in the way. I decided to not wear them anymore when I accidently sent one of my infants home with a fingernail stuck in his diaper. LOL His mom thought it was hilarious... but I was actually quite embarrassed. :o :o His mommy still teases me about it and that was about 4 or 5 years ago. :)

too funy Diane....I can only imagine what his mother was thinking at the time of discovery.....LOL

Mine are real. The only fake ones I have are my Avon samples. I bought a package of fake nails from Alco , glued them on small craft sticks and painted them with the different colors of nail polish I had so when a customer wants to see which color would look best they can just hold them up to their nails.
I have a terrible time biting or pulling my nails off too.
I have a french manicure in gel nails. Sort of like acrylic (not as thick) but the french manicure is in the gel (one is white and the other pink) so there is no chipping. I go about every three weeks and have it done. I started doing this after I quit smoking and started biting my nails..now I don't cause they are too strong to bite! LOL
Donna...a french manicure is white tips with clear, beige or pink nail bed. An American manicure is all one color like a sheer beige or pink.
well, I spent the weekend gardening...and lets just say I remember why I HATE having fake nails....needless to say I don't have them any longer...LOL... gave DD a bath tonight and ripped the last two that were left....OFF...now I have sad thin and fragile nails....going to put some Nylon polish on before I start my day tommorrow....but I am NEVER...NEVER putting those things on again....JMHO....thanks for all your answers...and now I remember why I hate them...LOL...
