I usually use a cleaner that we got from the jewelry store, but I think I have heard that you can use plain white toothpaste. Anyone else heard of this?

You're welcome! I love that site, too. Lots of info! :)
Toothpaste works well when jewerly oxidizes. The Sodium or Tin (stannous) is more reactive than the silver or gold and grabs the gunk off of them to form a metal oxide. I am not sure about the chemical composition of soap scum. I would guess that it is rather basic. I wonder if Ammonia would work on something like that. It might be caustic to the jewelry.

Clorox Clean-up works very well--and the diamonds sparkle! Asked a jeweler if it was ok to use it and he said it was fine.
LOL, I have that too....and it sounds like they would shine huh....LOL... so does that mean I have to clean while I am cleaning my rings?

When we purchased our rings we asked about cleaning them. Being family, the jeweller dropped us a little hint, that many of the jewellry stores, (even the expensive ones) clean rings with a few drops of MR. CLEAN in a cup of warm water. Let them sit for about 5 min. and rub with a soft brush (old tooth brush) or cloth. Thats all I've ever used on my rings and they always are sparkly clean.
Mr. Clean, Windex, Clorox clean up.....man I guess I should just forgo the gloves while doing my house hold chores....LOL...or take off the rings and soak em, while I am srubbing the house, my rings will be done when I am....thank ladies and gentlemen...
I've used toothpaste. Works fine. My mom always used ammonia. I just use some cheap stuff from Wal-Mart.

I've used toothpaste, ammonia and white vinegar. All of them have worked pretty good but I'm going to go try the Clorox clean up... I want the diamonds in my ring to SPARKLE!!! :) LOL
