My son has a bithday in August so his teacher suggested that he have a party at school now. So, I thought that I would make some half cupcakes but could use some ideas on how to present them. Anyone ever do something like this?

I have never done anything like this, but I have heard about putting the frosting in the middle like a sandwich, so it wouldn't get all over wrap in lunches. I guess you could use the same theory of putting the frosting in the middle and then cutting them in half. Come up with some cool name for them and the kids will enjoy it. I can't think of any cool names right now, but if I do I will let you know.

My ds has a July birthday, so I've done half cupcakes before. I used a jumbo muffin pan and the jumbo liners. I baked them, cut them in half - liner and all (so there's a left half and a right half, not a top and bottom), then frosted them. I also made little signs that said Happy 1/2 Birthday Brent, and cut them in half. Then I taped a toothpick to each one and stuck one in each cupcake. I printed several different colors, and cut each little sign differently (zig-zags, curves, etc.). Then the kids could find the other half to their sign. Until they put the signs together, one half said "Happy Birthday" and the other said "1/2 Brent", so that the "Happy 1/2" and the "Birthday Brent" each lined up with each other.

Thank you so much for the ideas! I thought of one myself. I am going to use the large muffin pan, cut them in half, turn them on their side, frost em and decorate em like VW Bugs! I'll call em (punch buggies) and use mini oreos for tires.....
Thanks again,
Shar

I liked all of these idea's... might even try them with my day care kids. I never thought to put the frosting IN THE MIDDLE... Usually when I give my kids a cupcake or just plain cake, they lick the frosting off and leave the rest. I think it would be a lot more work for them to try to do this if I did it this way. Maybe they'd actually eat the cake. LOL
