Hi everyone:)
I was thinking about making a sensory book for the infants that I care for. I am going to include different textures and shapes such as bubble wrap, sand paper and felt in this book and am open to any ideas anyone else can share with me! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How about foil, velour, terrycloth, quilted fabric, and plush? I'd stay away from bibble wrap with infants, I think. But you know how closely they will be supervised....

If you use the roll our orange bubble mats that you use for camping they are a bit more sturdy for infants. Also, if you use the report covers and cut holes where you want the sensory items sticking through to touch it makes it nice for wiping down to clean. You may also put a picture of the child in the book with a little piece of material over it like a curtain so that they can play peek-a-boo with themself while reading the book! Happy reading!

What a cute idea!!! Wonder about putting some squishy stuff in a zip lock bag of sorts (taped so it wouldn't ever leak) to make like a little puffy/squishy/drawing area. Maybe fill it with paint or even hand cleaner gel if you wanted it to be clear...something like that?? That fake fur stuff that you can get at a fabric store would be soft too. Have you seen those plastic hot pads?? could you cut one of those up in pieces and put that in it? Seems those are bumpy or have ridges or some kindof texture on them.
Anyway, what a neat idea for the babies. I may have to swipe it and try it too.

Hi ....Welcome to the board...glad to see so many newbies jumping in....hope you all enjoy it as much as we all do.
The only advice I have at the moment is to say away from the bubble wrap (potential choking hazard)
good luck....great Idea!

add in cinnimon sticks, orange peel and vanilla bean pods for scents. A squeeky toy and a music thing from a stuffed toy for sound.

I agree....stay away from the bubble wrap.(unless it will be sewn between two pieces of cloth and you feel it by squeezing the whole page)
Sand paper can be quite dangerous to some little ones too. The fine sand comes off on little fingers and can be toxic.
The idea in general sounds great.
Welcome to IB.

You could use old film canisters and fill them with scents and poke holes in the top and hot glue them shut. I also made a sensory bristol board page with shiny foil wrap cut in a shamrock, a heart cut out of pink felt, smooth bristol board. bumpy corrugated cardboard, and some of that white stuff for wrapping that is not bubble wrap but smooth not sure what it is called. I taped each around all of the edges and hot glued it on the bristol board. That way you can set it on the table or floor when you are there to supervise.

:walkin: Another idea I was thinking to try was to make a texture mat or walk. Put contact paper on the floor with the sticky side up, plus the bubble camping mat, maybe a low bin or something with water in it (summer time) that sort of thing and letting the older infants and toddlers try it out.
