do your kids rooms have themes?

I would love to decorate the boys rooms. I am hoping to do oldest ds room for his birthday this fall. Since he will be 7 I think the Harry Potter would be cool for a while yet. I asked him and he was all for the idea. He needs a new bed and dh is going to make it, so far, or I will have to try Ikea. I have a lot of cool ideas and I think I could make it work cheap. As for youngest ds (5) I still want to do Dr. Suess before he gets too old. Is he already getting too old for that? Or should I stick to something else for him? He will be 6 in March so I wouldn't want to do anything too old for him either. He isn't into any sports yet, no real interest. Any ideas would be appreciated. And of course I still want to hear the themes for your dk's. :)

My ds1 is 5. His room is a mix of Power Rangers and Scooby Doo. Both he and I would love to do his room in castles and knights, but we can't afford that now.

The articles I've read say to get a basic furniture and paint scheme. That way when they grow up it's easier to change. New bedding and curtains, maybe pictures. They also have wallpaper borders that are supposed to be easy to remove.

Our oldest ds (7) has a Star Wars theme in his room. Younger ds (5) has a Pokemon/Toy Story mix going on! I try to opt for theme bedding (at reasonable prices...WalMart/Target, etc), and cute matching posters...rather than trying to coordinate furniture, etc. That may change as they get older. Eventually I'd like to get them each a desk and a good dresser. They are using hand-me-down dressers right now.

Anything I did would have to be mostly paint or accessories. I cannot paint their dressers because fil made them out of oak. They are nice, but I would love to have something I could paint instead of always looking at wood. lol
I never thought of star wars, they are both starting to get into it too.
Do any of your kids have the high bunks with the desk underneath? I was thinking of something like that for the oldest to save on space. Do your kids like them?
Sasha, I love the castle/knights theme too. I wanted to do that a couple years ago and couldn't afford it. ds2 was so into castles then. I'm not sure what I would do for him now.

dd room we painted pale yellow, and dh and I stenciled flowers on the wall close to the ceiling....it looks cute, I did buy her a nice comforter set, little pale pansy design....did her room kinda just girly because it will last until she is a teen, if I can't afford to redo it by then....LOL


Did ds's room in an off white, we still haven't finished his, we will be stenciling trucks in Red, Blue, Green and Yellow along his ceiling walls too.....going to get him a plain Blue comforter, and sheet set....he loved trucks so I also found some wooden models that he and his daddy could make this Christmas and paint and hang from his ceiling....

Ds (2yrs) room we have the basic stock blue walls, but we have covered them ( and the roof) with glow in the dark stars (not the sticker type). we toyed with the idea of painting a mural, but decided at this age we would just be changing it to often as he grows, so we have just stuck with quilt covers, pictures, rugs and curtains over the blinds.

Both of my dks have plain reversible comforters. They each have several pillow cases with their favorite characters on them. They are much cheaper to buy than the whole sheet comforter sets and the kids love them.

My ds (5.5) loves supercross and motorcycles and has posters of his favorite riders on his walls. He also has a motorcross checkered flag (that he bought at an event) and a big banner with a logo from a popular motorcross apperal company. It looks really neat. (My dh decorated the whole room)

My dd (7.5) has a lot of beanie baby and beanie buddy bears decorating her room. On her walls she has several cross stitched framed pieces that my mom did for her. I have some more that I have done for her that just need to be framed. She really doesn't have a theme, but her room looks cute.

Jak, I like the idea of plain comforters and then character pillowcases. I wish I would have thought of that one earlier! LOL
Thanks for all the ideas. I am anxious to get started, just waiting for the rush of Sept. to be over with and to get his new bed.

Oldest ds has Buzz Lightyear in his room. He already had a lot of Toy Story toys, so those are sitting out in his room. I got a border on sale and my sis had that up the day we moved in. :) He already had Buzz pillowcases and I am going to order him plain comforters. We also put the glow stars up in his room - on the ceiling, ceiling fan, and outlining the frames of his windows and closet. We also wrote his name with them above his bunkbed. :) I have a Buzz poster for him that I need to put in a poster frame and then his room should be done.

Youngest ds has a farm theme. Plain comforter, but accessorized with stuff from Target ~ silo garbage can, barn shelf and light plate, border, pig night light, sun clock, etc. I love his room ~ thank goodness most of this was on sale and then some I got clearanced out. :)

My kids' room is decorated with their own art work. Practically every project they have ever done is plastered all over the walls. My nieghbor did me one better though. She let her 3 and 5 year old girls sponge paint sections of their room and then she finished up the room in a way that tied it all together. It's really neat.
