I can't believe how old my kids are getting...my oldest DS starting grade 4 today, and my youngest DS started grade 1 today  How is it that they are getting older while I am staying the same age? Actually, they both had a great day (although I was a little crazy all day :nervous: )

Isn't it unreal how fast they grow up? I definitely have the same question as you though - how they keep getting older and we don't!! ?( :newwink: Glad to hear they had a great first day! :yippee:

My dk's both settled into the new school great today. dd, being the chatterbox that she is has already made a group of friends. They have exchanged e-mail addresses, phone numbers and the whole bit already. She wasn't home 10 min. when she was on the phone chatting already. (isn't that suppose to be the teenage years?)
ds came home grinning from ear to ear and said "Oh Mommy, I just love my new school. Mr.B (the teacher), let us play hockey in the gym and do you know what, I get to share a table with Kimberly. She's one hot babe.
I was speachless. I think I need to work on him and his approach to women. I've already warned him not to kiss her and get into the mess he was in last year.

Has your ds started Pre-school again yet this year?

I don't know why, but something about your story about him and the teachers not talking to him, and the whole situation just touched me. I felt so bad for the poor little guy. I hope he has an easier time of it this year.

No, he hasn't started yet. His first day is Sept 18 and I have been trying to prepare him by talking about his teacher and when he starts, etc. He has already been telling us he doesn't want to go...he wants me to teach him at home or go to Daddy's school. Uhh, I don't think so since it's high school! He will be going to the same building as last year, but will have a different teacher who has been with the district for a few years. I have heard good things about her. (His one from last year didn't get rehired! :yippee: Although after what I heard from other parents not too big of a surprise. ) Thanks for asking and for your concern!!

Karla.....does your ds know anyone in the class??? Can you arrange a little playdate for next week before school starts? Sometimes that is helpful. Be sure to tell the new teacher about ds' experience last year. She will likely bend over backwards to give him a great start. See if you can visit next week a couple of times....most teachers don't mind that. I would talk to ds about school...but not toooo much! Some children get more nervous if we prepare them too much! (They wonder, "Why is she telling me all of this??? Is there something I should be worried about??) I hope his experience is much better this time! Can't wait to hear about it.

Thanks so much for your suggestions!! He'll be in the same classroom/setting as last year, but with a different teacher. I am definitely going to talk to her about our struggle last year. A friend's dd had this teacher and said she really helped her dd. I don't know anyone who will be in his class - I wish I did. I have just told him that he will be starting preschool again soon, what his teachers name is, and that he'll have so much fun there. I think for now I will just drop it - what you said makes sense that he may start to wonder why I am trying to convince him of how fabulous it will be! I never thought of it that way. Anyway, thanks again! I really appreciate it! :)
