Dh and I have just been made aware that our 7 year old son is beginning to grow some pubic hair on his genitals. He's only 7! Is this "normal"? Anyone have boys who got hair at this age? Yikes! He's just a baby! I'm totally freaked out, dh says I'm overreacting.

I'm not sure what is NORMAL. I have 2 ds a 6 1/2 yo and and 8 1/2 yo. I haven't noticed hair on either one of them.

Wow, that is very early. I'd visit with your pediatrician. My 2 oldest are 9 and 12, and I haven't been allowed to see their private areas in so long I wouldn't know if they had hair or not, LOL! The 12 y o must, cuz he's got a little under his arms and has a little bit of a mustache, but not the 9 year old.

I am like you TxMom, DS has been so private, I am not sure if he has any either! LOL

MK, I would check with your pediatrician. I do know that girls are going through puberty earlier and earlier, so it could happen. Let us know what your doc says.

That does seem young, but I heard the same thing as Ann about girls developing earlier. Maybe the same is true for boys? And, maybe ask dh if he remembers when he started "changing"??

Mk,
I don't know either if that is normal. Both boys were very private. My 20 year old struggles to grow a gotique(sp). My 12 year old alreadly has a pretty dark mustache and showed me today that he had hair under his arms (so it's funny I should read this post today). He had hernia surgery in Sept. and prior to visiting the doctor, he complained of a lump in his groin area, but it was several days before he would let me look. When he finally let me, I knew why. He had quite alot of pubic hair.
It does seem to me that 7 is young. I think I was still allowed to "check for ticks" at that age and saw no hair then. ???

Think that 7 is young, but everyone is different....check with your doctor....I had my ds who is 5 ask me what the wrinkles under is ***** were this morning....his testicles....It was hard not to laugh at his unusally calm face....when he replied....what are they for? Kids....I guess I am in for a lot of interesting things, I never even thought about how someday I won't see ds naked anymore....

My son is 6 1/2. He is a very big, (tall, and just big for his age, people think he is 8 or 9) At the end of last summer I notice some light colored hair under his arms. I think heredity might play a part in it also. I have a ton of hair and ds has very thick hair on his head also. I'd check with the doctor but it's probably normal. My ds also takes steroids for his asthma I figured that had something to do with it also.
