Does anyone know where I can hire someone to read the same book over and over to my ds. I am going crazy I can only read the same book a couple of times a day, and only once at atime, before going crazy. But how can i ignore that beautiful face, with those chubby cheeks!!!!:banghead:

It does make you pretty mental, doesn't it? :)

I'll never forge the days of "Left Foot, Right Foot... Feet Feet Feet, Oh how many feet you meet!"

dw and I could recite the whole book from memory! :)

One of my favorite moments was when my brother (has no kids) was visiting us from out of town. I told him to read the book to my ds. Little did he know he'd be reading it about 50 times!

Hahahahahhahahaha! Got him!

Boy can I relate!! :crazyroll  If we are on the millionth run in a row of the same book, sometimes I will try to talk more about the pictures and ask dks questions to add a little variety. :D

Brichard - We also read the Foot Book ALL the time to oldest ds to the point that we had it memorized! 8o I haven't given ds #2 a chance to become addicted to that one - don't think I could handle it again! :newwink:

Howdy,
We did the Foot Book and Good Night Moon!! Luckly now that DD is in 2nd grade we have moved on! Funny how those times drove you bonkers, yet as they get older you miss it!!

Yep, I do miss ready to dd every night. Just this summer I am trying to read to her again. The books are not as simple, and we have to use a bookmark.

Those were the days!!

Boy does that bring back memmories. At 14 months old my dd would run around the house with her copy of Green Eggs and Ham saying "read the book, read the book". (That was her first sentence.)

Jeannie...that is a great first sentence!!

One nice thing is that after you have read it so many times that your dk's can read it to you without being able to "read" a word.

Our book that got read over and over was "Old Hat New Hat".... oy vey! I STILL recite parts out of that book and our boys are going on 18 and 14!! lol

Kids are way too observant though.... one time I tried to fool him and picked up a book and started to "read" it..... the story went like this: "Once upon a time they lived happily ever after. The End". He looked at me and said "What's all these other pages in here??" I just looked him right in the eye and said "Advertising!!" LOL I don't think he bought that one. Unfortunately, that trick only worked once.

Wow! That usually doesn't come in until about 24 months. Is she still advanced in her language development? Sorry - I can't remember how old your kids are, but is she in school? Does she do well? Only a Speech Path. student would ask all these questions, LOL! It's just that I've heard that language development is a predictor of school success, which makes sense because all academics are language based.

Dahling, haven't you heard of books on tape! You could put on the tape, grab your own book and lay down beside her while you both read your books! We have a self reversing tape player you could borrow.

I didn't mind the Feet Book, or Green Eggs and Ham, what made me psycho is the Lionel Train series. They were really, really loooooong, and ds had me read them over and over and over. BUT they came with a tape, and when I just couldn't stand it anymore, I would let Levar Burton read to him!

We too had a favourite book and for ds it was "No More Elephants" and you could never trick him with changing the words, both dd's loved that book too but not to the extent that he did. The book no longer has a cover but I still read it to my preschoolers and after reading it only once I always get requests for "the book that was your little boys favourite"

Her whole development has been pretty a-typical. She could count to 12 at 14 mos. too. Not just by rote. She would count objects. She tought her self the alphabet at 19mos. She could resite it and recognise the all the letters. She had a few site words by two, but by then we noticed her social development was way behind. She was in early intervention at 3 and 4 then by five her development sort of evened out. She's in 2nd grade now and so far is getting average grades. Although I am getting a lot of "she not living up to her potential speaches from her teacher and councelor". I know she has a good memory, she's inventive, and very sensitive. I seem to spend half my day wondering what going on in that head of her's let me tell you.

Cherish the times you have to re-read the same books. I enjoyed reading this thread and remembering feeling the way you do now. It brought back fond memories, though at the time I was sick to death of the books.
