View Full Version : How do you heat your house?
we have an Oil furnace, that as of last night, doesn't work....started it up and it has a cracked fire block...so we are going to have to purchase a new oil furnace, it got me to thinking what does everyone heat their homes with? I miss natural gas.....LOL...

We have an electric forced air furnace. In our area it is pretty even between electric and natural gas. It seems like the east coast is pretty much all fuel oil? Why is that?
you got me Angie, I know that its pricy, and that isn't good....
We are gas heat and electric air.

I heard once and probably not reliable that the mafia owns the fuel oil industry? Hmm, where do we go to find this out?

We had electric radiant ceiling heat. That's the heating coils in the ceiling and it radiats from the top down. We also have a wall heater in the family room. Electric seems really big out here. With the increase in electric prices on the west coast, we installed a pellet stove insert. That is a stove that fits into the pre-existing fireplace and burns wood pellets. The electric stuff is still all installed so it's there as a backup.

Most of the people I know here have gas heat, unless they have an old house (oil) or one built in the mid 70's (electric-incredibly expensive and lots of people have converted to gas!) We have gas heat and manual air conditioning. (We actually have to open the windows. LOL)

I wish we had your problem, the summer heat has begun over here! Last winter we just used a gas heater, in the main living area and a radiator type thing for the bedrooms. and lots of cuddles under doona's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Gas heat and electric air here for us.
We have electric air and electric heat. The vents are in our ceiling all through the house. I guess that we have everything electric....stove, water heater, etc. It's interesting reading what others have.
We are total electric. We have a heat pump which I hate because in winter it is never warm enough. We also have a insert in our living room fire place which I love to crank up in winter.

Gas. I would love a gas fireplace but haven't talked dh into one yet. I love that it just needs a switch on the wall to turn it on. Maybe the next house will have one.
My neighbour won't have gas because she is terrified her house will blow up.

This summer we had a new gas furnace/electric air conditioner installed... The air conditioner they installed was the wrong size (too small for our house) and it wasn't cooling the house off as well as it should have been so... they came out and remeasured the house and determined that they should have installed a larger unit. They removed the first unit and they installed a larger unit, at their cost. If it hadn't been THEIR error, that same unit would have cost us an extra $l,500.00... so I guess it was to our advantage. :) I'm anxious to see how the furnace works... haven't needed to use it yet but I'm sure we will soon. :)

We have two gas fireplaces at this house and dks can't wait to use them. I, on the other hand, can wait because once we turn them on I realize there's no turning back to escape winter!

The boiler room below our kitchen heats our apartment and we are insulated by apts on either side of us. We do have an oil furnance but I only use it once or twice during the winter. Oh...and my hot water's so hot I can make tea with it. Cheap, cheap, cheep:chicken:
