American flags on school busses/ work place

Oregon has an administrative rule in the Oregon public school system banning the American flag on school busses. Several bus drivers have either been suspended or warned to remove anything that even is reminisant of the flag. For example, one driver placed a small flag in the rear window behind him where he already couldn't see out of. He was suspended.
My understanding is that this includes red, white and blue ribbons and even ties that imitate the flag.

The superintendant of schools, who could change the policy, has declined comment. What do you think about this?

I also heard of an office in Florida in which workers were told they couldn't display a flag on their desk because it may offend someone. Any comments on this?

For what possible reason is the law even on the books??? It's the AMERICAN flag we are talking about right??

so Oregon isn't part of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA? Hello.....I too am totally outraged at this superintendant of schools, and the people who elected him....Fight for your rights as US citizans to fly the FLAG.........:{ :{ :{ :{

In Indiana some school buses wanted to display the American flag and were told they can't. The reason was in a restriction related to conformity. As it was explained, the law was to deter the use of advertisements on the buses.

However... they have temporarily suspended the restriction and Bus drivers may display the flag as long as it doesn't interfere with visibility and the ability to drive the bus.

Our ds's school bus has red, white, blue streamers tied to it right now. I also noticed a black ribbon which I figure is for all the deaths. They are those balloon streamer ribbons tied up near the door on the outside of the bus.

Please don't anyone take this the wrong way, but is Oregon polical correctness gone amuck? I can see not obstructing vision, but good Lord. If you are living in America and are offended by the display of the American flag, get out.

Lynda, I love your posts, by the way. They are always thought provoking. I rarely respond to any, but this one definitely hit a nerve especially now.

That is INSANE! I can see if the flag is obstructing view, but that is all. There is no reason on the earth why they should not be able to put one somewhere on the bus where it wouldn't obstruct the view. There is more to a school bus than windows!

As for the office in Florida, I don't get that one either. If the American flag is offending anybody.....get out and stay out! Who could it possibly offend? Some people! I don't normally post on the debate board anymore, but this one just blew my mind.
