I've scheduled a conferance with my dd's teacher. DD is a 2nd grader in a 2/3 class. We've been spending about an hour a day on her home work and then she can never remember take it out of her backpack and turn it in on time. The first Friday of school she brought home five pages of math problems and told me they were due Monday. We spent hours hammering them out over the weekend and never did get them all done. Then come to find out that the problems were ment for the third graders and they were optional!:{

There is no written indication of when the work is suppose to be done and which is home work and which is work that she didn't finish in class and a I can't get a reliable answer from dd. Last year she ended up with a 3 inch stack af homework that she never got to. We devoted about two hours a week to homework and I thought that was over kill. Then her teacher told me that she never expected her to finish it all. What does that tell a 1st grader when you overwelm her with a totally unreasonable number of assignments? I was hoping it would better with this new teach but insted its worse. Isn't she suppose be learning how to budget her time? All she learning now is "if I get too much work I just don't have to do it". :banghead:

I think it was a great idea for you to schedule a meeting with your dd's teacher to find out exactly what's going on. If there are problems it's best to be able to talk with the teacher and find out exactly what is expected. It's too bad that they don't have an assignment sheet... something that would help parents know exactly what is expected to be done and when.

I remember when my youngest dd was in elementary school (can't remember what grade) her teachers would assign tons of homework every night. I guess she didn't think the kids/or the parents had anything better to do. LOL Our nights were consumed with helping/doing homework. Well... I too finally got fed up with it and called the teacher. The first thing she asked was if my phone call had anything to do with the amount of homework she had been assigning her students. Well..... LOL Come to find out that I wasn't the only one who had called to complain, but MANY had. Well, after that she made it a point not to send so much home. I don't mind "some" homework.. I'm not lazy and I've never minded helping any of my kids, but enough was enough. :)

Good luck... I hope you can get this problem resolved. Let us know what happens. :)

Sorry I'm not any help since I don't have any school age dks. I do think it's a good idea to meet with the teacher, especially to get a grip on this before you're too far into the year and you & DD become totally overwhelmed/frustrated! Good luck and let us know how it goes. :)

I think an hour of homework for a 2nd grader is too much. I think the conference is a great idea!!!

I think the conference is a wonderful Idea:idea: also, you might be able to suggest that maybe they have a list of 2nd grader work and 3rd grader work, seperated so that there is less confussion....I hope this all works out for you and see your frustrations....
