I just love seeing all the kids in those cute costumes!! Last year we had some neighbors that had these elaborate Wizard of Oz costumes. This year ds is going to be a Ninja. I bought his costume at JoAnn etc. Dd is Minnie Mouse, her costume came from the Disney Store. Dress, gloves, shoes, ears and handbag. She looks sooo sweet in it!!

No clue!! :tearhair: I was thinking of getting them costumes at The Disney Store and having them go as Woody and Bullseye. Ds was Buzz last year and we go with his cousins - thought it would be fun for his cousin to be Buzz this year. :) My brother also told me that Old Navy has costumes so I am going to check online for those.... Would love to hear what everyone else is doing!!

btw - Congrats on post #1000 angie! :yippee:

Okay, just checked out Old Navy and didn't see anything I liked for my dks. I am so stumped this year and want to figure something out before there's nothing to choose from. Oldest ds wants to be a Power Ranger - I'd like to tempt him with something other than that!!

We've always gone with homemade costumes and/or makeup. One year a puppy, a rabbit, Robin Hood (ds liked the green tights so much he would wear them under his pants for warmth till he outgrew them  ), Dracula. One year we made a huge letter P and blackened his eye (black-eyed pea). Last year he didn't go trick or treating and this year he says he just wants to pass out candy. We'll see if he changes his mind.

If you are going to order anything from the Disney Store you'd better hurry. They were already sold out of the Minnie Mouse and weren't getting any more in. We had to order off the net and BTW they have free shipping right now.

As of now, (and this could change...you know kids!)

ds#1 baseball player (using some of his Little League clothes)

ds#2 king (He was invited to a "princess party" a couple of months ago..., and dressed as a king)

So far, no costumes to buy!

Oh, this was so much easier when they were little and I could just dress them in what I wanted! I saw the greatest alien costume a while back but can't talk anyone into being one. Oldest ds was supposed to be done with trick-or-treating, but it's supposed to be such fun down here that he's planning on 1 more year. I'm sure he'll want to be something gory. Middle ds wants to be the grim reaper, but I refuse. We showed youngest ds an adorable skeleton costume, but he doesn't like it. I may just recycle one of our MANY ninja costumes for him. Or Batman. We've got tons of those and he'd love that maybe.

ds is going as a puppy, same as last year.

dd has not made her mind up as usual. She will probably rifle through her dress up drawer at the last minute and "invent" something.

How timely this post is! DS came home yesterday saying "I am going to do the most fun thing for Halloween. A group of the guys and I are dressing up and going out together...I am going to be Santa Clause and they are going to be characters from Cereals...Captain Crunch, Snap Krackle and Pop, Trix Rabbit" LOL OK babe...not sure how Santa fit in! LOL

I saw the cutest idea that even I could make and am trying to talk dd into doing. Take a hula hoop and run a shower curtain around it. Take some ribbon and make arm straps (the curtain will sit on top of your shoulders then drap down the body) On the back of the curtain attach some pvc pipe going straight up and then fashion out of tin foil a "shower head" have some blue streamer paper coming out of it for water. The idea is supposed to look like someone standing in the shower.
Hope the description made since! LOL

I have every year tried to get my gets to go as a tv and a remote control..but they won't! LOL

The way this post popped up on my screen, all I saw was "ds-shaggy" and I thought to myself "cool, the rapper? but how would dress like him, I didn't think he had a distinct look!" ROFL!!!

Ann~that is so funny. And would probably be a better costume! The shower curtain idea is great, and would be appropriate in Seattle because nine times out of ten it rains on Halloween!

We never buy costumes, they're always home made (except the Scooby that was a gift for Tristan when he was 2, but it was too small for him) and I am so grateful he wants an easy one this year. His costumes were getting so extravagant (dh built a paper mache crocodile head that his face stuck out of--it looked like he had been swallowed by a crocodile!) I was afraid that he'd be on a float by the time he was ten!

Last year he was a caterpillar. SO cute. We got all these gloves with different colored fingers and stuffed them and sewed them up the sides of the costume. When he'd crawl on the floor they moved like little feet. The year before that he was a dinosaur, which was my favorite. One year he was a Fire Fighter and we took his picture sitting in a real fire truck. He was two and half that year. Poor Lainie is still wearing hand me downs! Oh well, I'm sure she'll have an opinion soon enough.

PS Know why witches can't have babies? Because warlocks have "Hallo-weenies." Sorry. I heard that last night....

DD wants to be Cleopatra. She has always dressed up like a princess. We have tons of dresses, but nothing that hits me like an Egyptian outfit.

Any ideas out there??

I would love to go to target or walmart and find a Cleopatra outfit there. But so far no luck. I have only checked Walmart though. I forgot to look at target when I was there today!!

ds wants to be a hockey player - Leafs of course (no surprise there, he lives for hockey).
dd wanted to be a balerina but decided it would likely be too cold to go without a jacket, and what fun is a costume with a jacket over top to keep warm. She hasn't come up with an alternate just yet.

Can your dd layer lots of shirts & tights underneath her costume? It may be lots colder there than here though! We never know if it will be snowing or 75 degrees here on Halloween.

I suggested the same thing to her but she said " Aww Mom, get real, I'd look like the Sugar Plum Fairy" so I guess thats a no-go.
She decided to do the balarina thing for the indoor party at school, but still working on a costume for trick or treating. She is going up north to MIL's for the weekend and they are sure to go shopping. Maybe she will come up with an idea there since everything we suggest is "dumb".

Hello,
There are some neat ideas for costumes out there.

My oldest ds does'nt really know what he wants to be yet, all he knows so far is that he wants to use a sword, i am trying to talk him into being a pirate.

My youngest ds is going to be a lion, the costume is plush so it will be warm. He also looks really cute in it..can't wait for grandparents to see him in it.

Talk to you all again soon.

Have you tried the library? They usually have lots of stuff on making costumes.

For Cleopatra, try pinning a white sheet into a toga like look. Pinned at both shoulders and draping down. Add or make some Egyptian looking gold jewelry and trim and get a wig. You may have to get a black, straight, long hair wig and have it cut to style.
