I haven't been here forever! Dd had her adenoids and tonsils out last Wednesday. It was absolutely horrible watching her come out of the anethesia. She was so sad and disoriented that I thought I was going to lose it. I also expected her to perk up more afterwards and she was miserable for the rest of the day and night. Thankfully she was able to spend the night at the hospital and she was looked after, but since I made the DR. take out the IV line, it was my duty to make sure she had liquids every hour. :\ She is doing much better now, but nothing I would want to go through again anytime soon!
Today, we are going to kick back and find something fun to do.
Welcome back! Why did you make the doctor take out the IV line?
DH is home with me, in my way today and making me have to be productive! LOL This is the first time in a long time the kids didn't have Columbus Day off too. Really ticked me off that I got up with the kids and dh got up too...heck, I would have slept in if I had known HE was going to get up too!!!!!!!!! :newwink:
Astros start the playoffs tomorrow and Wednesday here at noon, so I need to get all my chores done today!!!!

Ann - Go Astros!!! :yippee:

Amy/CO- Doesn't sound like much fun. I'm glad she's doing better. Hope you get some rest.
Ann- Isn't there some 'errand' you could send him out on? Some obscure ingredient you 'need'? If not, take the day to share with him. Go to lunch and an early movie. Tomorrow's soon enough for your chore list.
Karla, Wait until they're teens and they sleep in every possible day. The peace is nice, but I'm so jealous that they can sleep the morning away (especially since they were the ones who messed up my sleep pattern, so I can't sleep in. LOL)

DD is home today, so we've been lazy in our pjs and then put together a scarecrow for our front porch. We're having a contest with my sister and what she comes up with for her porch!
After lunch, we'll plant some flower bulbs then get cleaned up for dance and it's off to Fall Fun Night at school. I'm working the pumpkin decorating table.... should be fun.
Have a great day everyone!!!

Everytime she turned, it would pull on her IV hand and she would cry. I just made him disconnect the line, but kept the IV in her hand in case of an emergency.

Amy/CO
I've been wondering about you. What happened with dh - is he going to be able to retire (or has he already?).
AnnW
Did you let your cleaning lady go?
Amy/Co...ouch!!!!
Cathy..we have been having a great time today...I am making him do the chores! LOL
TxMom..no, why?
TXMOM-
We have no idea. It is all a day to day situation. We are still planning on retiring in late January, but all that could change in an instant. It probably depends how ugly this war will get. I just hope the Pakistanis' don't get all crazy.

Amy/CO- I'm hating that continuing state of uncertainty for you.
Ann- He knows how to do chores?? Cool. I always hate cleaning and doing chores when anyone is around. It throws me off.
However I don't mind watching someone else clean. LOL

LOL... I'm sure glad that my dh had to work today, no day off for him. :yippee: I love him dearly but... not when I'm at home trying to work. Even if I did find enough chores to keep him busy, he'd still somehow manage to get in my way. LOL All of the kids still had school too. I can't remember if they had Columbus day off last year or not but it seem's to me that they did.
I went to turn the heat up this morning and found that we had none. U After purchasing a bran new air conditioning/furnace this summer you'd at least THINK we'd have heat when we needed it. Ugh!!!!!! So here I sat with all these kids and absolutely no heat. Dh hurried and called the place we purchased it from and thank goodness they were able to get here right away to take a look and find out what was wrong. It turns out that it was just a loose wire... ugh!!! I was glad that it wasn't something major needing a new part or something that would take a week or two to get. LOL Anyway... it's nice and snuggly warm in my house again.

Amy... I hope your dd has a quick recovery. I spoze they've got her eating lots of ice cream or jello? It's got to be SO hard seeing them be in so much pain... :( At least it's all done and over with and she will soon be back to her normal self. LOL
Diane...
Oh Amy/Co....we went through that with ds....andoids/toncils, and tubes in the ears....worth it in the end, but right after surgery....life was sucky....try to stay away from the ice cream...sherberts are good, but ds got really flemy, and it hurt when he would cough....eewwh....lots of couch and tv were a godsend and videos...hang tough honey....I'll keep your dh in my prayers...lets hope he can retire as schedualed...
Ann....dh and chores don't mix....LOL...unless dh is doing all of them....
my dh was home all day too, we went to his doctor to see if he could have his varacous viens removed...he is schedulaed for an ultra sound to see if his deep viens are in good enough shape...
I really got down to business with the kitchen today...placed most things in the cabinets into plastic/tuperware things to keep out little friends...I have a mouse I know it...saw the droppings....went a cleaning...got me some safe mouse traps.....eewwhh...
Freezing here yesterday and today...so stayed in the rest of the time.....looking forward to being home for a while....baking cookies tommorrow, just for fun.

I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that he will be able to retire in January as planned... It would be too bad to get this close and then not be able to. Keep us informed...

AnnW, and that motivation would be... ?
Amy/CO I know what you mean about seeing your little one come from surgery. Ds broke his arm in 1 st grade. I remember after the surgery they wheeled him out with a cast from wrist to shoulder, sleeping with an IV. Glad she's doing better and most of all the mom survived.

The phlegm is the hardest part for dd. Does it eventually go away? Did your ds complain of an upset stomach often? My dd is quite slim to begin with (41 lbs/45 inches) and I hate that she is losing so much weight. The only thing she will drink is carnation instant breakfast. I went out and bought whole milk too to try and fatten her up a bit, while still getting vitamins. Did your ds also have constipation? Dd hasn't gone since the operation. Im trying to add more fiber (juices and apples), but its just not doing anything. Anyone have any advice?
Thank you all for the prayers for dh. Our motto now is "For today we are happy". So we take it one day at a time and make it quality time with the family.

I think constipation after surgery can be pretty normal. Bless her heart. Hope you are all hanging in there.
Do keep giving her lots of liquids. Like Renee mentioned ice cream can add to the phlegm troubles - I think this includes milk/dairy products in general?? Not sure what your dd can eat yet, but here's a list of foods high in fiber.
The Top Twenty Fiber Foods
1. Dried beans, peas, and other legumes
This includes baked beans, kidney beans, split peas, dried limas, garbanzos, pinto beans and black beans.
2. Bran cereals
Topping this list are Bran Buds and All-Bran, but 100% Bran, Raisin Bran, Most and Cracklin' Bran are also excellent sources.
3. Fresh or frozen lima beans, both Fordhook and baby limas
4. Fresh or frozen green peas
5. Dried fruit, topped by figs, apricots and dates
6. Raspberries, blackberries and strawberries
7. Sweet corn, whether on the cob or cut off in kernels
8. Whole-wheat and other whole-grain cereal products.
Rye, oats, buckwheat and stone-ground cornmeal are all high in fiber. Bread, pastas, pizzas, pancakes and muffins made with whole-grain flours.
9. Broccoli-very high in fiber!
10. Baked potato with the skin
(The skin when crisp is the best part for fiber.) Mashed and boiled potatoes are good, too-but not french fries, which contain a high percentage of fat.
11. Green snap beans, pole beans, and broad beans
(These are packaged frozen as Italian beans, in Europe they are known as haricot or french beans.)
12. Plums, pears, and apples
The skin is edible, and are all high in pectin.
13. Raisins and prunes
Not as high on the list as other dried fruits (see #5) but very valuable.
14. Greens
Including spinach, beet greens, kale, collards, swiss chard and turnip greens.
15. Nuts
Especially almonds, Brazil nuts, peanuts, and walnuts (Consume these sparingly, because of their high fat content.).
16. Cherries
17. Bananas
18. Carrots
19. Coconut
(dried or fresh-but both are high in fat content).
20. Brussels sprouts

Thanks karla!! Unfortuantely, a lot of those foods she can eat yet. I talked to the pharmacist and he told me she has the constipation from the Tylenol with Codeine. I need to talk to the ENT Dr. to see what we can do for her. This is the only medication that takes the edge off her pain too. :(

Hope your dd is feeling bette soon Amy!
I agree, it's no fun to watch your little ones not feeling well.
:)
yes its the codine, wow its been only a year and I had forgotten about that....ds was sick to his stomach with the tylenol with codine also, so after day 2 he stopped it and we did the advil and tylenol regular every 4 to six hours....over lap....she will start to feel better, and the only real good advice on the eating part is....stay away from milky products...ds loved the sherber and yogurt pops....yogurt is less flemmy....and if he wanted to eat jello or anything else...we gave it to him...hope she is feeling better soon.....I hated that part...but the results are wonderful...
