View Full Version : Went to the Chiropractor today
Well after some of you suggested that my leg pain might be due to sciatica, I spoke with a friend at school whose FIL was a chiroprator before he died, and she herself used to work for one. I told her my symptoms and asked about sciatica. She was very familiar with it and called another chiroprator she goes to church with. He then spoke with me on the phone for about 10 minutes and I agreed to see him.
He felt sure that by adjusting my hips I would find freedom from my leg pain. He "cracked" both hips. The right one taking more effort and that was the one causing the most pain. Then I got some kind of electric therapy (which was heaven). I hope this does the trick. From what I'd read, heard about from my friend, and confirmed by the Dr. (who thought my symptoms were textbook) I think that was my problem. Every symptom was there. Wish me luck. Hoping that once I'm pain free, I can then sleep without drugs.

I was so glad to read the thread you started. Were you at all worried about his "cracking" or adjusting your hips? I am having a lot of stiffness/spasms in my neck when I turn it - I think it's from years of crunching the phone between my ear and shoulder. Today I had a massage and it felt like heaven, although as I sit here the effect seems to be wearing off. Thought I'd try something less invasive first...it kind of scares me to think about someone "adjusting" my neck!

electric therapy --- like ultra sonic massage therapy? I love it.
When my shoulder acts up the chiropractor pulls it out, feels great. Worked wonders for the pinced nerve in my back too.
I wonder if it's available in home version.....
Did you ever go to a massage therapist. I've been tempeted but have never given it a try. Might treat myself once these little ones arrive. dh says I should go now, but maybe it's just a hormonal thing, but I can't stand anyone touching me these days. It just sends weird vibrations right through me.
Glad to hear you are getting some relief. :yippee:
Karen I was terrified. First he had me do some stretches to check my flexiblity, then he did an orthopedic exam. Then I got "cracked". He had my lie on my side and told me he'd never pulled anyone off in the floor yet. Then proceeded to pull me just over the edge of the table. I of course slide easily and grab for the edge. He takes my arm and wraps in around my should as he pulls my to leg to a 90 degree angle, climbs on top of me and with one hand on my hip and the olther on my knee give me a quick pop. It sounded like someone popping their knuckles. I hardly knew it was coming. The other side took a little longer, he had to press a couple of times.
darlene definitely a pain in the "butt". I felt better afterward. I was even able to lay on my right side last night for longer than 30 minutes, but still not able to sleep that way. Felt pretty good this morning.
MaryL unfortunately as the day wore on, my hips started hurting again. Also hurt where he'd done the poking and prodding. Then my lower back began to hurt. I don't know if it is because of the realignment, mis-alignment, or now I've just really agrivated something.
I had another doctors appt. today with regular Dr. I'm scheduled for an MRI on Thurs. I really feel helpless and can't help but feel "stupid". I'm just at a loss. I feel bad about coming here every day and "belly aching". But constant pain is a real B****.
Thanks for listening all.

Just remember it may take a while to get your back and hip back in shape. The muscles pull on the bones and the bones pull muscles sometimes. They kind of affect each other. I love the electric therapy thing you mentioned. My chiropractor has the same thing and it's almost like a mini vacation... LOL

Don't EVER feel bad about coming here to vent/complain or anything!!! We've all been there... done that! LOL If it helps you feel better keep it coming... LOL I've had electric theropy before too and it really helped. Unfortunately it may take you several trips/treatments before it starts to feel better but it didn't happen over night and it isn't going to go away overnight either. Hang in there! Let us know how your appointment goes on Thursday!!! I hope you start feeling better soon!
