View Full Version : made myself a doctors Appt...finally
well, after 6 weeks of straight pain....I finally broke down this afternoon and called the doctor for a appointment...I go at 1:30 p.m. tommorrow, I am scared that this pain in my low back will be something awful, or something they cannot treat in which case I would be forced to deal with this pain forever....those are my fears....probably a syatic nerve, I do have a hurniated disc that is cronic, but this pain is constant and I can't relieve it no matter how I sit/lay/stand or stretch.....I am also asking him to look at my throat cuz thats sore still...maybe I should get some Wellbutern...LOL....thats like prozac with out the sexual side effects....
wish me luck, I am a chicken at the doctors....sorry to fill up with all this post tonight, just feel real chatty, and the kids are reading books with dh...

Hi, I have wicked sciatic pain also. It starts in my hip shoots down to my knee and ankle on the right side and up to my neck and causes migraines. Like you I waited to go to the doctor. If this is what you have they will tell you they can't do anything. My doctor gave me ALOT (18) stretching exercises to do. WOW did it make a difference!!!! The pain is gone now. But when I start to get ****y and say the pain is gone I don't have to do the exercises the pain returns. Good Luck at he doctor.
Good luck, RCT, I'll be thinking about you. I hope it's something that can be relieved. If it turns out it's not, and you need support, let me know. My dh has a chronic pain disorder called Fibromyalgia. He's on a whole host of meds, including antidepressant medication and high-powered pain narcotics. It's not fun. Anyway, there's a really neat site out there, called the Colorado HealthNet, or something like that. I'm sure if you enter those two keywords it will give you a link to the right one. I even found a penpal who's wife has the same condition as my dh. We've been cooresponding for over a year now. It has been very good for both of us.
Again, good luck, I hope you can get some relief!

I feel for you having all that pain! Ever since my dd's accident she's also had a lot of pain in her lower back down her legs... shooting pains... the whole works, but like lindaM... the doctor also gave her a lot of stretching exercises to do and they do seem to help her quite a bit. My dad went through major back surgery about 5 months ago and although his pain went away for about 2-3 months it came back. Ugh! It seems like everybody I know has some kind of back pain/problems... I have my moments but feel fortunate that it isn't as bad as some. Good luck though and I hope they'll be able to find out what the problem is and help you to start feeling better. Let us know how it goes, okay? :)

Good luck at the dr tomorrow. It's so difficult to have chronic pain! :( I had problems with sciatic pain while pregnant with ds #1 and it was HORRIBLE! I literally could not walk without a shooting pain down my leg. I hope you get some answers tomorrow. Let us know how it goes!
MK- My mil has Fibromyalgia. Do you have lots of info on it? DH and I would love to learn more to try to better understand what she is going through!

Yes, there is a ton out there. Here are a few good links to get you started:
http://content.health.msn.com/condition_center/fms
http://www.coloradohealthnet.org/site/idx_fibro.html
http://www.medhelp.org/gov/www66.htm
The Colorado Health site is one of my favorites, plus, if you just enter a search for fibromyalgia, it will give you a wealth of links to look at. There is also a book called "The Fibromyalgia Relief Book" by Miryam Ehrlich Williamson.
Fibromyalgia is a "series of syndromes within a syndrome". There is an inexhaustible list of symptoms, such as arthritis, insomnia, depression, irritable colon, migraines, chronic fatigue (even taking a shower is exhausting),and in women, reproductive problems such as endometriosis, irregular menstrual cycle and painful intercourse.
There are still a lot of theories out there, some say it is caused by a sleep disorder, which messes everything else up, some say it is a hormone imbalance within the brain (that's my theory too), some say it is still nothing more than hypochondria. Still others say it is related to arthritis. There are some other theories out there, too, such as it being triggered by a traumatic illness or injury. My dh's doctors think it might have something to do with his getting rheumatic fever as a child. Anyway, I applaud you for trying to get info and understanding your mil's condition. I hope this helps!

My sister was just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. She's on medication now and doing pretty good but still has some pretty bad days. I don't know too much about it yet myself but I'm going to check out these sites and read up on it too. Thanks for posting them!
Diane~
Hope you find some answers Renee. Dd and I have a chronic stuffy nose on one side of our nose and its driving me crazy to figure out why. I just don't buy the allergy bit, so I hope you do better than me! Hopefully its just a pinched nerve and you can get relief. Let us know!
Quit imaging the worst!!! :) It's probably something very fixable but because moms never have time to go to the doctor it's gotten aggravated.
Let us know!!!
I am actually getting excited about going to the doctors, dh will drive he said since it is still snowing today....LOL...3-6 inches by this evening....dd will stay in with him while I see the doctor alone.....I can get some answers to this back pain, and about this lingering nasal/sore throat too....your right AnnW I haven't seen a doctor since Sept. when I had strept throat....I always put off myself, and well I can't do it anymore....sil lives by the doctor and said it was cool to borrow ET, since I don't have it on video and can't buy anything for a while, she is in FL...and said go get it...LOL...ds/dd will be so pleased....started a crock pot of Chili this am so dinner is done and I am baking a loaf of fresh bread to go with it....should be a good day. I hope the news is good about my back, I am almost sure it has to do with this hurniated disc and I am loosing some weight and that always helped that.....wish me luck...

Thanks for the links - I am anxious to look at them and get more info. I have read a little info on it and have heard some of the "therories" that you mentioned. There is someone in my area who believes it is caused by a sleep disorder and claims to have a "cure" for Fibromyalgia. My mil is on disability and sometimes is VERY active, so it has been difficult for us to understand and know just what her limitations are. Sometimes what she says about her condition conflicts with her actions. Anyway, I really appreciate your help! Thanks again! :)
