I am looking into this and hoping it's legit as I would love to help out in some way. I did send the initial email and got a response. I am supposed to email back and choose which branch of military I prefer....
Amy/Co & Jen - Any thoughts on this? I have heard of things like this before, but can't remember where...like how to get info on who to send "care packages" to. Just not sure if it's "safe" since it's thru a private party. This gal does have sponsors and seems to be for real. Any way to get info from your dh's or on base?
I think we visit the same "other" site! ;)

I haven't heard of this, but if it does turn out to be somewhat legit, would you let me know. I would love to help out too.
I don't know how this woman could possibly get addresses for military members stationed overseas. That would be one thing to look at. I know that Dear Abby does something over the holidays- and those addresses are only good for certain dates. I'll see what I can find out.
If you actually sent a care package I guess it really depends on you what types of item you want to send. I know that my dh always loves junk food that he can't get where he is. Homemade cookies are always popluar. But you could also go the way of sending personal hygine items- soap, toothpaste, things like that. Sometimes they run out of things and can't get those- it just all depends on where the person is stationed and what they are doing there.
Right now with the war going on people are being sent to remote locations and probably don't have access to a lot. But then again the likeyhood (sp?) of you being able to send something to them is probably impossible.

Thanks Jen!! I was also wondering how she would get names and addresses - that's what made me second guess it. Now that you mention Dear Abby...that is where I have seen this before. I'd love to get involved and send care packages, but only if I can find out more info and if this gal's set up is legit. Thanks again for the info and let me know if you find out anything else. :)

I think Ann Landers just advertises the Holiday Care packages program, not set it up. Not really sure who does set it up but it goes to a single address (or is it one per branch?) and then they are divied out from there. That program should be getting started really soon since you need to ship far in advance for overseas. I can remember mailing packages back stateside prior to Thanksgiving for Christmas gifts.
