my student is moving abroad.....

One of my students is moving to another country. Can you suggest an easy-to-create souvenir that her classmates can make for her. I want to give her something too. What's an ideal souvenir for a 5 yr-old girl coming from her teacher? Should I buy or make the souvenir myself? Do I need to have a farewell party for a little girl like her? Thank you.

We gave a canvas book bag with all the girls' handprints on it for a little girl who was moving in my dd's brownie troop.

Cute idea, Ann! I have also heard of doing the same thing with a pillow case. :)

I don't know if this is to much work, but what about giving the kids each a squre of material, and fabric paints, leting them paint a picture and then sewing it up into a really basic quilt.

If you have access to a scanner and printer, when one of or homeschool group moved to Alaska, one of the moms took digital pictures of all the kids, printed each kid's pictures in the corner of a 3x5 index card. The kids then put their addresses, birthdays, etc. on the cards and decorated them. The mom put all the card into a special folder that she had made up with the address card in one pocket and paper and envelopes in an other. It was really nice.
