Brichard and I have our first appointment tomorrow at 8:45! I am a little apprehensive because this is an all new doctor/facility to me. I am dreading the blood draw. blech! On a more positive note....lol.....I am happy to get all this doctor business going!! Woo hoo!!

I hope that it goes well. I have received 3 shots in the past 5 days trying to get everything in line for starting my home daycare. Those needles didn't feel too good, nor do my arms! Do you know what your due date is yet or will they let you know tomorrow?

That's the one thing that never bothered me. I hate the exams!! Dh on the other hand had to leave the room whenever they used a needle--it made him light headed.

We're home! No blood drawn today!! Hooray! It was a quick visit with the nurse, basic info, prenatal vitamins. I go back next Tuesday to see the doctor. While we were walking through the hospital I saw someone getting a blood draw and I nearly passed out! woozy!!! Brichard laughed at me!

Well DON'T watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :newwink:

When they do draw the blood, ask them to use a butterfly clamp/needle..they don't hurt at all.

They always used the butterfly needle on me before. The pain of the draw doesn't bother me, I just get sooo woozy! The smell of alcohol makes me pass out so they have to use iodine. I only have one good vein and it is deep in the crook of my left arm. Of course everyone one always thinks.....I can get it!! Then they dig and dig in my other arm, back of my hand, I have even heard them wanting to go after my feet? What is up with that? Both times I had dk's the anesthesiologist(?) couldn't get my vein anywhere but that one spot.

They get so arrogant at times. I have incredibly small veins and I am a "so bleed", I ALWAYS say " you need to use the butterfly clamp and pediatric needles" most of the time they will listen and say "oh, ok, thanks" but every once in a while I will get someone who sort of rolls his eyes in a "I know what I am doing" sort of way, who will proceed to stick the hell out of me, getting mad at ME cause he wouldn't listen, and then finally going to a butterfly clamp and pedi needles!!!!!!!!!!

Wonder if you took dramanine before you went, if that would help the dizziness (or is that something you can't take if pregnant?)

You know, I've learned to get just downright b***** when it comes to getting my blood drawn! I have spider veins and it's my way or the highway! Which is a crack-up because in most other things I'm a doormat, lol! I've also learned to insist on an anesthesiologist to start an IV too. For goodness sake! Some of those people who have never seen you before don't realize that *you* know your body better than *they* do! *gasp*!!! :{ Medical profession... yet another subject that raises my bp, LOL!!!

Glad that everything went well today for you Angie, and that you were spared! ;) Keep us updated! :)

Glad to hear things went well today. How exciting!! :) How many weeks are you? :tinysmile

I used to be a BIG chicken when it came to needles. After having ds#1 (and a zillion shots/pokes later) I think I just got used to it. Dh on the other hand has to hold my hand if he gets a shot.

I'm glad everything went well and you were spared the needle/blood draw. LOL I don't much care for needles myself... My dd has what they call "rolling" veins... and they always have a hard time trying to catch a vein. I feel for her each/every time she has to go in... she hates it! So now... how often do you have to go in?

Diane...

I go to the doctor once a month until my 6th month, then every two weeks my 7th & 8th month, then every week until my scheduled c-section date. They take blood three times during the pregnancy and then they will put in an IV line at the hospital.

angie r - just being nosey, but why the scheduled c-section? (or did I miss a post somewhere? sorry)
Dd was a c-section too, but for sure not scheduled!! :D She decided to come a week early!

Why did you go c-section?

Ds who is 5 was a frank breech and had to be delivered c-section. Dd who is 3.....I labored 40 hours and never got past 3 cm, delivered c-section. This one I am scheduling, I'm not doing labor again! :D

Good gosh! After those 2 deliveries, I don't blame you!! :\ It'll be nice to have it planned so you can make arrangements for your other dks.

Dr. did a c-section b'c my water broke and 12 hours later, I hadn't gotten past 4 cm and she was actually creeping back up - lovely, huh?! Also, my pelvis is small so, a c-section was a possibility when we found out I was pregnant. (she was 8 lbs. 12.5 oz)

Would you go c-section if you had another child or would you try to vbac if you thought the baby was small enough?

littlesista06

I'd like to try to go vbac. I wouldn't care to have another c-section.

In all of this, I've forgotten to say congratulations to you!! :D

Oh, can I ask, did your c-sections have any effect on your milk coming in? I never got any and I just can't help but wonder if her coming early, and the surgery.... if that had something to do with it.

My ds was 15 days early and my milk was plentiful until I went on the mini pill after 2 months. After dd was born I didn't go on the pill and my milk supply was enormous, easy to pump, a breeze!!! Did you get any help from a lactation consultant? What did your OB say?

littlesista06
10-28-2001, 11:01 PM
OH! Did I have help!! I had every nurse on the floor in there with us by the time we left as well as the head nurse blabbering on about not to be upset that things weren't working. That was right after a nurse had been in saying "look at your baby, she's turing her head away from you, she's rejecting you b'c you are not breastfeeding." Ok..... that's just a little disheartening. I think that was after dd bit me earlier in the day!! The nurse laughed and said, "that couldn't have hurt too badly!" grr.....

I was just thinking today, would I try to nurse with another or not? Dd was just a healthy as she would've been had she been nursed, so I dunno what I would do again..... don't have to worry about it yet. :)

As far as my OB, he was such a jackass. I don't remember if I mentioned the nursing issue with him.

What a bitch!!! I am sorry, and I know that breast feeding is optimal, but not everyone can do it for various reasons and for someone to suggest that your child is rejecting you cause you aren't breastfeeding is just plain ignorant!!!!!!!!! grrrrr!!!

AnnW - I KNOW!! So, is it any wonder I was scared to death to bring my new dd home????
We were only feeding her 2 oz of formula - the hospital thought we were 'supplementing'.... hellooooooo.
The nurse came by the house the day after we got home and asked us why we were feeding her with a doll bottle!!
Can you imagine what she probably thought of us???!!! ?(

I totally freaked! I had no idea how to bottle feed a baby - I called a friend and asked her how she mixed up formula and I even asked her to take me to the store to buy the rubbermaid container to mix it in!! What a basket case!!!! :D
