And I am the meanest mother in the world. Actually she has 8 pieces left in her pumpkin.

Last night, we got in too late for her to eat any candy. We brush teeth and went to bed. This morning I asked her to seperate her candy into to piles. The ones she like and didn't liked from there I told her. -You are eight, so you can pick 8 of your favorite. (Got the meanie lecture here, but said ok your birthday is still 2 weeks away. We could just do 7! She went for the 8)

The rest of the candy, I sent to DH's work. The house is now non- tempting for me.

Is this bad or not, will you let your dk's eat all their candy???

They never have. I let them have a few pieces a day, after about a week, I will start tossing a few out...after a couple of weeks they have lost interest and I just toss the rest out.

Wow... you ARE mean. LOL Just kidding!!! Really though, my kids would have been SO mad/angry with me if I had done that to them. All I can say is that my kids were never big candy eaters and never ate a lot at once. They NEVER ate it all... but a few (four months or so) months later I'd find it, ask them if they still wanted it and would usually end up throwing it away. They DID eat/get whatever they wanted though... they just never did. I don't think I would have taken it away from them though but I'm not saying you were wrong in doing that. At least your's is getting eaten instead of thrown away. :)

We usually have a feeding frenzy for about a week and then they lose interest. Then I gather it all up and put it in the candy box in the pantry.

We combine it (both boys) and "investigate it" (LOL...ie...Mom checks it for safety and for the stuff I won't let them eat (hard candies, etc....while the boys say "Oh cool! I love those!"). Then I leave it in a rubbermaid storage bucket in our pantry. (I seperate the chocolate stuff.) My kids look forward to the variety...but aren't huge candy eaters. I allow them only two pieces for dessert at night. So it lasts for a long time. In the meantime...dh eats his share of the chocolate...and I periodically grab some to take in to school for the school secretary's candy dish. My kids would be disappointed if I wouldn't let enjoy their candy. My neighbor does something neat. Her daughter is 5 and diabetic. So she goes out trick-or-treating each year. When she gets home, she puts her candy bag on the front porch and during the night the Great Pumpkin comes and takes the candy and leaves a small toy or stuffed animal. Cute idea!

Don't get me wrong. DD is enjoying her candy. I let her eat all she wanted today (After the other was removed) I did count the smarties as one there were about 5. That is one of her favorites. She still has some left tonight.

We can always take a trip to DH's office to get more. LOLOL

I just didn't want all the sweet stuff around here. I hate old candy too. I have been known to pick up a hersey's candy for DD (this is her favorite chocolate) when I am at the store as a special treat.

I thought this was a great way to get rid of the bulk stuff.

Yep, we are spoiled!!

Dh was saying that one of the ladies that works in his office brought about 1/2 of her dd's halloween candy to work too. LOL Must be a good way of getting rid of what you don't want. I agree... some kids get WAY too much candy. Thursday morning I swear... each and every one of my dck's must have eaten just a TON of it before they came over because they were terribly wired. Ugh!!! It's a good thing that Halloween only comes once a year. :)

well, after dh and I check the candy bags....for stuff to throw and well to help eat the chocolate ones of course....LOL...just kidding....NOT....after about a week, the kids have eaten the good ones...and mostly what is left is stuff they don't know what it is...or don't like....I usually pitch that stuff....not a big deal...they like the lolipops and they stay fresh long....It is a good thing that it only comes once a year....

When my kids went Trick or Treating... it was really never the Candy they looked forward to, just the fun of dressing up and running door to door with their friends. When they got home the first thing they'd do was to COUNT how many pieces of candy they got... then they'd categorize it, and then they'd throw what they didn't like/want away... or trade their sister's for something they liked better. After a few day's it usually wasn't that important anymore... pretty much got forgotten, which was fine by me. I know of some kids that just LOVE candy... and they'll gobble it all up and scream for more. Ugh!!! I'd sure hate to have their dental bill. :)

Dks have barely touched their candy. Today I offered them a treat and they asked for CARROTS instead!! 8o I wish I had the willpower to just throw it out, but I have always loved Halloween candy and I love having it here in case of any sweet tooth cravings. :)
