ds had decided for some reason that he doesn't want to buy lunch as often...which I find strange since it was such a treat for us kids to buy lunch when I was his age.....but anyway....what do you all put into the lunch boxes? we do noodles in the thermos...and pb & j sandwiches...also ds has no real Lunch Meat favorite....he likes sandwiches like Egg and I don't feel comfortable putting Mayo in his lunch box...does anyone else use those frozen packs for the lunch box....and do they freeze the sandwich? thanks in advance...

They don't "freeze" the sandwich but just enough to keep it cool/fresh. If you don't feel comfortable putting mayo ON his sandwich... how about sending a packet of mayo (like the ones from McDonalds) along with him... that way he can put his own on. Just a thought... My kids always looked forward to buying their lunches at school. My youngest wouldn't DREAM of bagging it... in her school, it's just not the "cool" thing to do. LOL

We make our own "lunchables" -- i usually keep cut up veggies in the refrigerator...so using a divided container that fits into his lunch box, i will put a couple kinds of veggies, sometimes some crackers, then either sliced pepperoni or bologna. I add a box of raisins and a couple of cookies. My husband's friend was asking his son if he knew our son, and the boy said, oh yeah, that's the kid who always brings vegetables.

You don't realize how easy you guys have it. First of all...you have a cafeteria at your childrens school? We don't . They children must bring their lunches to school everyday. There are so many children that are anaphylactic that we are no longer allowed to bring the following.

Items containing: NUTS/PEANUTS , FISH OR EGGS

Therefore, no peanut butter (or any foods that have a trace warning on them...we read all our ingredients), no salmon, no tuna and no egg salad or hard boiled eggs.

Our menus are therefore very limited. I send things like cream cheese (a lot...on bread or bagel or pitas). Jam sandwiches. Alphaghetti (blah but my older son takes it once a week). Macaroni and cheese in a thermos (blah but they take it once in a while). It is very difficult for us but I would LOVE to hear some suggestions.

Wow... I couldn't imagine not being able to use someof the things you can't use. I would have a VERY difficult time finding something to put in my child's lunch.

When I was in elementary school we either had to bring our lunches to school or walk home. Seeing we lived over a mile away from the school we usually brought our lunches. Sometimes we were the only ones there... and the principal would get mad/angry at us for being there because he had to watch us and that meant he couldn't go home for lunch himself. :( Anyway... now I see that they have a cafeteria and everybody stay's and none of them are allowed to leave the school during lunch time. I think I'd rather have my child buy their lunch from school... less hassle trying to find something for them to eat. Too bad you don't have that option. I couldn't imagine trying to make a lunch every day without using peanut butter. Ugh!! :)

Thanks for your sympathy guys. I would love to see them build a cafeteria in the school...I think that would solve all the problems. I don't think it will ever happen though...too much money.

I'll think of you when making lunches

I dread making school lunches... trying to find something that ds will eat is a job in itself. I can't imagine doing it everyday!!!!!! I feel so sorry for you. I had been asking around trying to come up with new ideas. My son is picky and you really have to stay on him or he won't eat. They have no supervision at lunch so I try to find things that he really likes so that I know he will at least be eating something. One day I asked him how school lunch was and he said " the cookie was good". That was all he had even tried. Ugh... I think 5 yr olds should have someone encouraging them to try things. Too Much trouble I guess...

I too would love to have new ideas!!!!!! Please help.. Our school puts their entire lunch box in a refrigerator so cold is not a problem. Staying warm might be though... lol
