I don't eat meat (and haven't in 18 years). I will pick at chicken (only if prepared at home) very rarely. I like some types of fish. Somebody recently told me about quinoa. It is supposed to be so high in protein. I think I will try making it at home...anybody have any good suggestions?

What is it??

How about beans, peanut butter, whole raw almonds, tuna, vitamins, supplements???

Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) is a grain. It looks and tastes very similar to couscous. I think you prepare as you would rice (boil it), and then you can add things to it, like vegetables. A waiter told me that he thought it had a protein content like steak. I had it once in a restaurant and it was quite tasty.

Thanks for your suggestions Ann....I really should be taking vitamins because I am such a poor eater.

OK Marla....dh is a Vegan...and I know that Ari doesn't do lots of meat either....Beans...tofu....do you eat cheese? cheese is good....Eggs, Peanuts, Nuts, Peanut Butter....a multivitamin like Centrum or One a Day will help you too....Cottage cheese....I think someone told me that Yogurt has protien...but I am not too sure about that....

I say Beans and Brown Rice....it's the best protien...But I am not a big fan of Brown Rice...so we do white....

Marla, this post really interests me because I need to increase my protein intake and struggle with meats, too. Never heard of quinoa so I did a search and found this:

Click on the 4 links for recipes.

Here are a couple of other sites:

Here's a banana cake you can make with it (there are a couple links at the bottom of this page, too):

MM! I'm a veggie! HH is a meat eater and sons don't eat red meat or pork. They eat plenty of fish and I am big on legumes and whole grains. I do take a vitamin suppliment as well. HH also drinks protein shakes before he works out. I wonder if they would help you. I eat some sort of legume dish daily and lots of fresh veggies. I have been known to slip a meat substitute into a family meals and be able to fool them.
HH business is poultry and fowl so what ever poultry is eaten here is corn fed and drug free. ßß!

Mickey...thanks for the great investigative work. I will definately try out those recipes.

It would be really helpful if we could post when we try one of them (or find a new one) therefore we could all enjoy just the good ones

Thanks to everyone for their help.

Just saw this thread (where do they go?? lol) so thought I would add my 2 cents.

Ever since dh stared following Body for Life, we have both been eating a lot of egg whites, great source of protein and you don't get the cholesterol. I sometimes scramble mine with some salsa and pepper, yum.

Also, dh had protein shakes daily, I have them occasionally if I'm pressed for time or just craving one.

What is Body for Life? Is that the blood type diet?

Body for Life is a book written by Bill Phillips. It is an exercise and nutrition program based on the simple philosophy that proper diet and exercise will yield the body you want.

You exercise 6x week, 1 day weights (alternating upper and lower body), 1 day cardio. You eat 6 small meals per day combining a (good - complex) carb and a protein at every meal, and you drink tons of water.

The cardio is intense, you work in increments. Dh has had great success, it has changed his life, and he is getting pretty darn buff which is a nice side effect :newwink:

Here is their official site, but there are loads of spin offs:

Now that you described it, I have heard of it!! I am really intrigued by it, but it's the 6 meals a day that get me! I don't want to think about food that much!!! LOL

LOL, that's why dh has two meal replacement shakes a day, one mid morning and one mid afternoon, so he's not always eating.
