HELP ME....ok at what age did your girls STOP playing with BARBIE.....we have Barbie, and some of her accessories....the "bake shopee" and "light up closet" lots of shoes and clothes.....we are also interested in the Fischer Price Doll house....the new one has a house attached to a stable with horses and people.....she is 4....what to do....I don't have a lot of Money for Presents...and I want Santa's :santa: gift to be a good one, that will be USED...LOL....any advice any hints...anything you have to say I would appreciate it.....thanks in advance...
DD is asking for "barbies and more barbies" for this Christmas, and she is 7.5.

I don't know an exact age, but I know I played with Barbies for a long time - for sure thru 2nd grade. :)
OK....so I should get the off brand "Barbie House" $25.00 and skip the Fischer Price thing for $35.00 so Barbie will be around me for another at least 4 years....LOL....help...
Renee....what are you asking? If you want to save money buy the less expensive one, if you are worried about paying more for the other one cause your dd may not play with it long, don't buy it. LOL But, if you want justification for paying more..my dd is still playing with Barbies.
OK, AnnW you figured me out....CHEAPO mommy here, wants to make sure that spending the stupid $25.00 for the Barbie house (which is what I am leaning towards) is a good investment...she obviously will still be into them when she is older...as the Fischer Price stuff will probably be out grown sooner....
Love Barbie myself...but hate all the little pieces.....:bounce:
I don't think you can beat the Fisher Price quality.
Good luck in your decision!!!!

LOL :biglaugh: are you trying to confuss me...LOL (which isn't too hard now)
Does your dd still use any Fisher Price stuff? just curious...I think we are going with the barbie house...and some small things too...I am getting a Free (Slightly used) Easy Bake oven for her too....so...maybe some stuff for that too...thanks again for letting me pick your brains....
We had her doll house made cause of my old doll (barbie sized) furniture didn't fit in the Fisher Price house which is the one we would have gotten her. Most of the Barbie furniture she has is Barbie brand.
My dd is 7.5 and like Ann's dd still loves playing with her barbies and dolls too for that matter. I really think it depends on your daughter and the kids she plays with. In NC when my dd was in Kindergarten I know that most of the girls in her class were already out of the barbie stange, but not my dd. Luckly she has a good friend who still lves to play with Barbies and dolls too so they play together.
About the barbie house vs the fisher price house. Go with your gut (it's on $10 difference in price). Does she play more with her barbies or her fisher price items she already has?

Hi Renee. Our dd's (9 and 11) still play with Barbies....although the 11 yr old would hate for her friends to know about it!
DD who is 9 is still asking for them for Christmas.
They mostly get played with when they have a friend over.....like today....dd and her friend played for a couple of hours with them. We have a big 8 room wooden home made doll house that suits the barbies perfectly.
If you think she would play with it alot, I'd say put the extra $ into getting a good one that will stand up to alot of playing.

MY dd is eight and never plays with her barbies any more. We have a tub of them under her bed for when friends come over.
She perfers to play with her american girl doll, and has a collection of porcelian dolls.
My solution- We have a Fisher Price doll house and furniture that I want to get rid of. Let me know if you want it!!
I will try to figure out an email to post here!! I had an old idea box mail, but never checked it. Just post and I will get back to you.

Get her whichever one SHE likes/wants. You might save yourself some money by buying the CHEAPO one... (the one she doesn't want) but in a long run your loosing money because she probably won't play with it as much, if at all... When I spend ANY amount of money on a toy and it's not being played with... I consider it a big waste of money. I'd rather spend a little bit more and get them what they want. That and she'll probably be playing with it for a long long time, so it's probably well worth the extra money you spend on it. :)
Good luck with your decision... :)

I think you can go with either but would probably go barbie myself. We have 4 houses and to be honest NONE get used. All were bought used. The old version FP doesn't have any stuff with it. The chalet is missing some window parts. Two are the put together with particle board apartments and elevator.
The FP is more durable and can be used for other dolls as well. In fact DD received a Fashion Polly Doll set today. It's about the size of the McDonald's Barbies and I can easily see it being used with the FP house. For awhile DD used the FP house for her Kelly dolls.
Something about the *adult* look to Barbie stuff attracts the slightly older kids though. So she may prefer that one for a longer time.
Side note - This Fashion Polly set is much nicer than it looks in the package. DD is 6 and the girls that chose them for her are 6 & 7. The clothes is a soft rubber that stretches on. The package says 4+. The mother told me they are surprisingly durable as well.
As for Barbie ages - I agree with JAK. It depends alot on her friends. DD is 6 and mainly plays Barbies because ALL of her friends envy her collection. The K, 1st, and 2nd grader here all play. The 2nd grader has a K sister. The 5th and 6th grader will sit down and play if the younger kids have them out. They act like its a guilty little secret though! In fact the one(5th) sat down and told me *I still like Barbies* sort of sheepishly when she saw me sit down with the littler kids.
