View Full Version : Why do members hide when they are online?

I know you can do it in your profile, but.... why?
I like it when I can see who is on. For example, if I want to chat I'll look for people like Leigh and Jeff who normally chat. When it says 7 members are online, but they are all mystery guests... you have no idea.
I'm not upset or anything... free country, but why?
hmmmmm

I wasn't sure what the question meant when I was answering that profile question so I just answered no. I have since tried to change it and have been unable to modify it.

I don't know why people would hide either....kinda spooky...like someone is watching us
I don't like the idea of people knowing my comings and goings.

I'm very conscious of my privacy, and protective of it. I also type much too slowly, and with too much looking at the keyboard, to be willing to chat. So you don't miss out on much. LOL

I put it on invisible when I first signed up because I just had this feeling if some posters knew I was on but I didn't respond to a particular post (and they thought I should have) I'd be viewed as rude, etc. Since that time I've gotten a different feel from the board and decided it was no big deal.
I find my time on here very limited and I don't respond to all the posts I should. By now, though, I think everybody on here knows I'm not around on a daily basis and sometimes all I do is read the posts.
I couldn't change the invisible to visible again myself--I think David read my other post and changed it for me. THANK YOU!! :)

I wondered the same thing....I guess I really don't care if people know I'm online at IB. Heck, sometimes I'm on...get distracted, and am still logged on for....say 2 hours!!!! Like you all think I'm really on that long???? LOL! We all have our own computers...(well, dh and I each have our own... kids have one to share) so I have the luxury to leave it on if I want to. I personally don't care who else is on...but I can see the point about chatting.

I was invisable for a while too, I guess maybe for the same reason Ann gave... I decided to become visable again when I realized how much I enjoyed looking/seeing who all was posting at the same time I was here... so decided it was only fair to "show" myself too. LOL I really didn't do it to "hide" anything. :)

I've thought about this, but I still don't get it. I mean... you could leave your PC logged on all day and not "really" be on. I don't understand even if one stalked your comings and goings what real benefit it would be. What could somebody do with that data?
Well Annabelle you are just going to have to miss out on all those wonderful chats with me since you are too paranoid to post your name!!!! :biglaugh: :D 8o 8o 8o :D
Personally I think you are embarrased about how much time you spend on the box, but your number of posts gives you away honey!
I love teasing you Ann, one of my favoriet IB pasttimes! :brow:
